‘American Idol’ Top 20 sing for America’s vote: Who gave the best performance? (Part 1)

Ten contestants take the stage in Hawaii as America’s voting officially begins, with mentors Brad Paisley and Keke Palmer guiding the Top 20.

The power shifts this week on American Idol. Judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan have narrowed the competition down to the Top 20, and now it’s up to America to decide who stays and who goes home.

The contestants headed to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa in Ko Olina, Hawaii, where they perform for viewers’ votes for the first time this season. To help them prepare for the make-or-break round, the hopefuls received guidance from two special mentors: Grammy-winning country singer Brad Paisley and Emmy-winning actress and singer Keke Palmer.

Palmer also served as a guest judge during the episode, joining Underwood, Richie, and Bryan at the judges’ table.

The night also featured a special performance from Season 21 winner Iam Tongi, who sings the title track from his debut album It’s Good for My Soul. He was later joined by Season 23 finalist Thunderstorm Artis for a duet of “Island Style.”

Host Ryan Seacrest announced that the American Idol app has been retired, but fans can still vote for their favorites via text or online — and, for the first time in the show’s history, through social media. Just head to @AmericanIdol on Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok. You can vote up to 10 times per method, per platform — a total of 50 votes for your favorite contestant.
