Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the lead actors of Harry Potter, who played the titular character, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, respectively, have publicly disagreed with her views. Rowling last addressed their comments in April 2024, and, almost a year later, she’s back at it again. In a new tweet on X, Rowling seemingly called out the three Harry Potter stars.
On Mar. 17, Rowling re-shared a post asking, “What actor/ actress instantly ruins a movie for you?” To that, she replied, “Three guesses. Sorry, but that was irresistible.” She also added three laughing emojis.
The post went viral online, with people divided into separate camps. With 10.3 million views, 2.5k replies, and thousands of re-shares, the post had the Harry Potter community divided again. No one had a doubt she was referring to Radcliffe, Watson, and Grint.
While some fans were in for the drama, and just re-shared photos of the “Golden Trio,” others questioned the need for a Harry Potter reboot. Some of them went as far as claiming Rowling got the reboot because she disliked the original cast. Of course, the original reason Warner Bros. Discovery granted the film series a new adaptation is because Harry Potter continues to be an incredibly lucrative IP.
“There’s only one reason she wants a new Harry Potter series, and it’s because she hates the idea that she had a hand in starting the careers of three incredibly decent people with lives that aren’t plagued by hatred and have great success despite speaking out against her bigotry,” wrote one X user.
“So basically, this h*g has just confirmed why the HP show is happening in the first place…” wrote a different person on X alongside a GIF of The Office‘s Michael Scott. “If she’s referring to the three people that I think she’s referring to, then she needs to grow up and sort out her priorities,” wrote a different person alongside a GIF of Ron’s iconic quote.
Daniel Radcliffe Addressed Rowling’s Comments About Being ‘Ungrateful’
Considering the trio publicly disagreed with Rowling, the author has marked them as Undesirable No. 1. In April 2024, Rowling replied to a tweet that said, “Just waiting for Dan [Radcliffe] and Emma [Watson] to give you a very public apology … safe in the knowledge that you will forgive them.”

A few weeks later, Radcliffe shared his own views on her comments. He noted “it makes me really sad, ultimately,” highlighting the respect he has for the books and the universe she created, noting that, “all of that is to me so deeply emphatic.” He continued, “Jo, obviously Harry Potter would not have happened without her, so nothing in my life would have probably happened the way it is without that person. But that doesn’t mean that you owe the things you truly believe to someone else for your entire life.” Radcliffe further showed his support for the LGBTQ+ community.
The author will reportedly be “very, very involved” in the new HBO Harry Potter reboot, which is set for release in 2026.
