A forgotten Jacob Elordi film that was slated by critics but fans adore is now streaming on Netflix.

The Australian cinema icon is currently best known for roles in hit films such as Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights as well as the controversial HBO hit Euphoria.

However, his most die-hard fans will remember the star for young adult films like The Kissing Booth, and maybe even this hidden gem released in 2020.

Based on an incredible true story, Elordi portrays college student Chris Gregory, who becomes entangled in the lives of wealthy rum heir Jorge (played by Adan Canto) and his wife Leslie (Radha Mitchell).

Also featuring Tiera Skovbye (Riverdale) as Chris’s girlfriend Sam, the uplifting and poignant drama film explores the life-changing power of organ donation through a remarkable real-life case from the early 2010s.

Despite the inspirational story, critics hated the film, awarding it just 17 percent on Rotten Tomatoes with a consensus that reads: “Its picturesque setting is as agreeable as its noble intentions, but this treacly melodrama proves 2 Hearts aren’t necessarily better than one.”

However, fans have ignored the terrible reviews and awarded 2 Hearts an impressive 87 percent audience score on RT, with countless viewers willing to defend the cinematic tearjerker.

It has just been added to Netflix this week, ideal for Elordi fans who were obsessed with Heathcliff and can’t wait for him to return as Nate Jacobs in the third season of Euphoria.

One 10/10 IMDb review called the film a “beautiful story!”, adding: “Love this movie so much.

“While it may have not been what I expected, the overall storyline is amazing. Filled with so much emotion, this is the perfect movie to watch if you need a good cry. It’s beautiful, and love that it’s based off of real stories.”

Someone else agreed: “It was a beautiful story. I prefer going to movies without knowing what happens, so I was stunned with the outcome. I loved Chris’ spunk. And he and Sam had such great chemistry.

“Jorge and [Leslie’s] love was beautiful too. Lots of sweet times spent together telling their beautiful love stories and how they eventually connect. Reminds us that there is always good even in the bad!”

Someone else insisted: “You need to watch this. This movie is one of the best movies i’ve seen in a long time.

“The timeline is incredible and the way it all leads up to the end is so gut wrenching but so worth it! I’ve literally never cried so hard watching a movie 10/10.”

And a final enthusiast on Letterboxd admitted: “This movie completely and utterly wrecked me. I cried through the last 30 minutes of it.

“But I think it was absolutely beautiful. Yes, it may have been on the ‘cheesier’ side but it was based on a true story and had a wonderful message.”

For Netflix fans on the lookout for a cathartic emotional release this week, 2 Hearts is almost guaranteed to have you reaching for the tissues.
