Fans of the memorable Addams Family had high hopes for Netflix‘s Wednesday, which premiered in November 2022. Jenna Ortega played the bitterly hilarious Goth Wednesday Addams and joined the student body of boarding school Nevermore Academy. Some parts of Wednesday season 1 fell completely flat, including a love triangle storyline and the character actually attending a school dance (although Wednesday’s dance scene is one of the best parts of the season). However, there was still plenty to enjoy, including cameos from Addams Family members and the mystery of the Hyde Monster.
When Wednesday season 2 is streaming on Netflix in 2025, there is one Addams Family member who fans wonder if they will see again. While they might have had a brief role in season 1, they are still an important part of the popular Addams Family franchise. Are they coming back for Wednesday season 2, and which other relatives of Wednesday’s are returning?
Is A Popular Addams Family Member Returning To Wednesday Season 2?

According to a Reddit post in the Wednesday SubReddit, George Burcea shared on Instagram that he won’t be playing Lurch in Wednesday season 2. Although Lurch doesn’t play a big role in the TV series, fans have a lot of nostalgic feelings about this character. At this time, there is no official confirmation about who will play Lurch in Wednesday season 2. It’s possible another actor will take over the role.
Lurch is an important part of Wednesday season 1 because he makes the Netflix series feel familiar. Many fans felt Wednesday season 1 didn’t give them enough of the Addams Family vibe and tone that they enjoy and Jenna Ortega’s character didn’t feel like the classic and iconic Wednesday character. But when Lurch was onscreen, it felt comforting. While Lurch isn’t given much to do in Wednesday season 1, Lurch drives Wednesday and her family to Nevermore Academy and he also drives her back home. Lurch may appear on the screen briefly, but Wednesday’s arrival and exit are big plot points. Since Lurch is the tall, gruff Addams Family butler who groans instead of talking, he’s a fun and mysterious figure who means a lot to Addams Family fans.

If Lurch isn’t in Wednesday season 2, another character will have to drive Wednesday to Nevermore and back home for breaks and at the end of the school year. While this might not seem like a huge problem, Wednesday season 2 will have to fix one aspect of season 1 and also explain where Lurch is and why the Addams Family don’t have their butler. If Lurch is played by another actor, then that won’t be necessary. If Lurch does come back for Wednesday season 2, hopefully he will play a bit more of a significant role so he and Wednesday can interact more. As fans saw from Jenna Ortega’s time on You as Ellie Alves. she has an impressive talent for playing vulnerable yet strong characters who are outsiders.
Which Actors Played Lurch In The Addams Family Movies?
John DeSantis in The New Addams Family (1998-1999)
Carel Struycken in The Addams Family (1991), Addams Family Values (1993) and Addams Family Reunion (1998)
Zachary James in The Addams Family (musical, 2010)
George Burcea in Wednesday (2022)
While Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, the showrunners of Wednesday, haven’t said much about Wednesday season 2, including which characters are coming back and what fans can expect from them. They haven’t commented on Lurch specifically. However, they did mention the mystery that the Wednesday season 1 sets up in the finale. While Lurch might not say anything, Lurch is driving Wednesday home from Nevermore when she gets a creepy text message that proves she has a stalker. Millar told Variety:
“I think our idea is that she throws the phone out the window in the next beat. I just don’t think she ever got to use a phone. I think she’s maybe vaguely tempted or amused by it. But then she’s going to reject it.”
Which Addams Family Members Are Coming Back To Wednesday Season 2?

There are a few Addams Family members who will return for Wednesday season 2. This includes Morticia Addams (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and Gomez Adams (Luis Guzmán) along with Pugsley Adams (Isaac Ordonez). Wednesday’s hilarious and quirky Uncle Fester (Fred Armisen) is also returning. Since there will be a Wednesday spinoff focused on Uncle Fester, it makes sense that he will be back for season 2.
Grandmama will also appear in Wednesday season 2, played byJoanna Lumley. While Jenna Ortega said Wednesday season 2 will have “horror” parts, fans are also hopeful that there will be more scenes of the Addams Family members. Whether they visit Wednesday at Nevermore Academy or wreck havoc at home when she visits, there are many potential storylines that could satisfy viewers.
