Hannah Harper’s whirlwind rise from “American Idol” winner to Grand Ole Opry performer reached another milestone this week as the Missouri singer-songwriter made her debut on country music’s most iconic stage.

The 26-year-old mother of three took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville on Tuesday, just weeks after winning Season 24 of “American Idol,” marking the launch of her post-“Idol” tour.

Harper performed her original song “String Cheese,” the track that first captured national attention during her audition and moved judge Carrie Underwood to tears.

Underwood, who won “American Idol” in 2005 and now serves as a judge on the competition series, joined Harper during the performance in a surprise appearance and shared a photo of herself, Harper and runner-up Jordan McCullough on Instagram.

“Reunited and it feels so good!” she captioned the photo. “LOVED seeing @hannahharper and @jordanmmusic at the @opry last night! These two are the real deal…so sweet and supportive of each other! Don’t forget to catch Jordan at the Opry coming up soon! #proudparent”

Before singing, Harper reflected on the significance of standing on the famed wooden stage that has hosted generations of country music legends.

“This is absolutely insane,” Harper told the audience. “I feel like there’s power coming through my boots.”

The Willow Springs, Missouri, native also spoke about the role faith has played in her journey from small-town performer to national television champion.

“When I started thinking about ‘American Idol’ and just praying that the Lord would, if [the show] wasn’t for me, shut the door in my face,” Harper said. “And man, I felt like [God] grabbed my hand and he said, ‘It’s go time. We’re running baby!’ and we haven’t stopped running. And now we’re here, and it’s so amazing!”

The Grand Ole Opry marked the occasion on social media, sharing video from the performance and asking Harper whether she could have imagined during her audition that she would one day perform “String Cheese” alongside Underwood on the Opry stage.

The venue later congratulated the singer, writing that she was “right where you’re meant to be” and describing the debut as “one to remember.”

“String Cheese” has become closely associated with Harper’s story. During her “American Idol” audition, she revealed the song was inspired by her struggle with postpartum depression after becoming a mother. Harper said she initially wrote the song as a way to encourage herself during a difficult season of life.

The singer has said the song was written “just to minister to myself in that season,” but later realized it was resonating with listeners facing their own challenges.

Throughout her run on “American Idol,” Harper became known not only for her country vocals but also for her openness about her Christian faith. She frequently performed worship music during the competition and spoke publicly about the influence of faith on her life and career.

After being crowned the winner on May 11, Harper closed the season finale with Chris Tomlin’s worship anthem “At the Cross.” Earlier in the season, she performed the same song during the show’s faith-themed episode and described the performance as an opportunity to share her beliefs with viewers.

Following her victory, Harper, who attends First Baptist Church of Birch Tree, thanked supporters for their prayers and expressed gratitude to God for opening doors in her career.

“I’ve been in ministry since I was 9 years old,” Harper told CP earlier this season. “Having a platform at this level and getting to still be this open about my relationship with the Lord is an incredible honor to me.”

Harper also shared that she and several contestants regularly prayed together backstage during the competition.

“The entire competition in itself is scary, and there’s a lot of spiritual warfare in LA, and we both are like sponges when it comes to that,” she said. “We feel all of it. So it’s been really nice to have somebody like-minded in that sense to be able to share these moments with me.”

By the season finale, Harper had emerged as one of the show’s breakout stars: “I think it’s important for people to know you’re never too far gone,” Harper said. “He can meet you anywhere … no matter what walk of life you’re in.”

The singer is scheduled to perform across the Midwest and South through mid-November, including two appearances at Dollywood as she continues her transition from reality-show winner to touring artist.
