The Blade Runner Franchise Moves to the Small Screen

While there have been two critically acclaimed Blade Runner movies — Scott’s 1982 original and Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 — neither was a box office success. Alcon, who acquired the film, television, and ancillary franchise rights to Blade Runner back in 2011, is seemingly aware of this, having already transitioned the series to the small screen in 2021 with the anime series Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Set in 2032 and following a female replicant, Black Lotus was a co-production between Crunchyroll and Adult Swim, airing a single season of 13 episodes from November 2021 to February 2022.

Blade Runner 2099 does not yet have a premiere date but will stream exclusively on Prime Video.
