On July 3, Netflix unveiled its latest action-comedy, the highly-anticipated Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The film is the fourth in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, bringing the brand, which was made famous in the ‘80s and ‘90s, into the current day.

As Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hit the streamer, it became a must-see for millions of subscribers. The title quickly reached Netflix’s internal chart as one of the most successful new releases, and now its popularity has extended beyond just the online platform.

This week, the theme song from the original Beverly Hills Cop debuts on a Billboard chart. This isn’t the first time that the tune has reached any of the weekly rankings in the U.S., but it’s still managing to arrive on tallies it’s never landed on before.

“Axel F” debuts on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart this week. The tune opens at No. 12 on Billboard’s ranking of the bestselling tracks in the country classified as either dance or electronic when it comes to genre.

This week marks the first for the catchy instrumental single on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart. It has found its way to other rankings in the past, as it was something of a surprise hit when the first movie became huge as well. This specific list didn’t exist during the ‘80s, as individual digital purchases of tracks didn’t become popular until more than a decade later.

“Axel F” became a very rare top 10 hit without words on the Hot 100 back in 1985. The track peaked at No. 3 on the list, coming tantalizingly close to making history as an instrumental leader. It did go on to rule several of the company’s dance and pop-specific rankings at the time.
