As Disney’s new live-action Snow White releases in cinemas, let’s take a look at lead actress Rachel Zegler’s life.
Young actress Rachel Zegler is slowly but surely making her mark in Hollywood after previously starring in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Hunger Games: The Ballads of Songbirds & Snakes, and now she’s living out every Disney fan’s dream by starring as Snow White in the new live action remake.
She will face off against Gal Gadot’s character of Evil Queen while Andrew Burnap takes on the role of Jonathan, Snow White’s love interest in the film.
As fans flock to the cinemas to watch the new version of the classic 1937 hit, let’s take a look into Rachel’s life from the recent controversies surrounding the film to her relationship with her famous boyfriend…
Snow White controversies
The film has been riddled with controversies since Disney announced they had cast Rachel as the title character, as fans claimed her Latina ethnicity didn’t represent the character having “skin as white as snow”. Meanwhile, plenty more fans defended the casting decision, hitting out at the backlash to the on-screen representation.
Disney also decided to create CGI dwarfs, which was called out by members for dwarfism community who criticised the lack of authentic casting.
Actor Peter Dinklage called out Disney and expressed: “You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f*****g backwards story.”
In an interview with Extra TV, Rachel was asked to explain how her portrayal of Snow White is different to the 1937 original.
She described how it now feels dated due to its close focus on the love story, even referring to the original prince as “a guy who literally stalks” Snow White, which angered many Disney fans.
Amid the multiple controversies, the usual Hollywood premiere which usually has red carpet interviews was reduced to just photographers and in-house crew.

Actor boyfriend
Rachel is in a relationship with fellow actor Josh Andres Rivera after meeting on the sets of West Side Story.
The pair confirmed their union in February 2021 and still appear to be going strong four years later.
After starring in West Side Story, the pair went on to appear in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes together in 2023.
The two are clearly very loved up as they regular share cute snaps of themselves on social media as well as supporting one another on film red carpets.

Palestine support
Rachel has been vocal for her support of Palestine during the ongoing conflict with Israel and put up several tweets to share her feelings.
There are rumours of a feud between Rachel and her Snow White co-star Gal Gadot as the pair have opposing views, with Gal voicing strong views in favour of Israel. This feud has never been confirmed.
Rachel shared the trailer on her social media and followed it up with a tweet that read: “And always remember, free Palestine.”
She previously told Variety: “I can’t watch children die. I don’t think that should be a hot take.”
