These underdogs have a lot to offer every sci-fi veteran.
If you are sure you have already seen all notable science fiction flicks, we have a perfect list for you. Fasten your seat belts and be ready for an immersive movie marathon.
Here are 7 sci-fi gems you’re missing out on, handpicked by Redditors.
Dark City (1998)
First comes a film that was outshined by the success of The Matrix, but got reassessed over the course of the last few years. It tells the shocking story of an amnesiac man who wakes up in a strange town and explores the theme of simulated realities and memories.
Enemy Mine (1985)
Next comes a back-then box office failure that follows a human and alien soldier who end up stranded together on a dangerous planet, where they must team up in order to survive. It surprisingly blends science fiction and good old Westerns’ elements.
The Fountain (2006)
Written and directed by the Black Swan filmmaker, Darren Aronofsky, this sophisticated sci-fi drama also flopped at the box office, but then gained a cult following. It consists of three epic storylines and has Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz playing different roles.
Outland (1981)
Next is a space Western about an officer who takes up a position on a mining facility on Jupiter’s moon Io and discovers a conspiracy that threatens to ruin both his career and life. It appears to be greatly inspired by Gary Cooper’s classic Western High Noon (1952).
Cube (1997)
Following a group of six people, who wake up in a strange maze-like structure and are forced to work together to escape, this gem mixes sci-fi elements with horror and does it perfectly, paying homage to the genre’s classics and to Kafka’s surreal novels.
Colossus: The Forbin Project (1970)
This thriller was way ahead of its time, as it spoke about AI and the risks it brings people. It centers on an advanced American defense system that becomes sentient.
Solaris (1972)
Last is a sophisticated psychological film that follows a crew of three scientists who face emotional crises on their mission on a space station orbiting the fictional planet Solaris.
