Deadpool & Wolverine is officially in the can. Ryan Reynolds has revealed that post-production has been completed on the hotly-anticipated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie.
The actor shared on his Instagram Story a picture, taken from the back, of himself and Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy. Overlaid with the song “End of the Road” by Boyz II Men, Reynolds’ Story also included the following message: “And that’s all she wrote for post production. Feels like a million years of work went by in a blink. Sitting next to this guy made it all so sweet… Hard to walk away.”
The Long Road to Deadpool & Wolverine
Reynolds debuted as the character in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine before leading 2016’s Deadpool and its 2018 sequel Deadpool 2. A spinoff of 20th Century Fox’s main X-Men series, both Deadpool films were massive critical and commercial successes. A third solo film originally entered development in November 2016. Following the acquisition of 20th Century, Disney confirmed in December 2017 that Marvel Studios would develop Deadpool 3, that the movie would take place in the MCU, and that the Merc with a Mouth would remain R-rated.
Shawn Levy, who directed Reynolds in 2021’s Free Guy and 2022’s The Adam Project and Hugh Jackman in 2012’s Real Steel, was confirmed to be helming Deadpool 3 in March 2022. Jackman’s involvement was announced that August, with the actor set to portray a Wolverine variant that hasn’t been seen on the screen before. Filming kicked off in May 2023 in London under the working title “Tidal Wave.” Production was suspended in July because of the SAG-AFTRA strike and didn’t resume until that November. Filming wrapped in late January 2024. The first trailer was released the following month, which revealed that the official title for Deadpool 3 would be Deadpool & Wolverine.

Deadpool & Wolverine Is Set to Make Box Office History
After a rough 2023 for Marvel Studios that saw two of its three releases drastically underperform at the box office, 2024 is looking to be a banner year for the company. According to pre-release box office tracker The Quorum, Deadpool & Wolverine is projected to earn between $200 million and $239 million in its opening weekend domestically. Even if Deadpool & Wolverine opens at the lower end of its projections, it would still mark the best opening for the MCU since Spider-Man: No Way Home in 2021. Additionally, a $200M+ opening would break the record for the best R-rated opening, currently held by the first Deadpool ($132.4M).
Deadpool & Wolverine opens in theaters on July 26, 2024.
