Netflix has released the first images of Ballad of a Small Player, an upcoming film starring Colin Farrell. The movie is directed by Edward Berger, the acclaimed filmmaker behind Netflix’s All Quiet on the Western Front and the 2024 film Conclave. Ballad of a Small Player is written by Rowan Joffé, the writer of 28 Weeks Later and The American.

Based on Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel, Ballad of a Small Player follows Colin Farrell as Lord Doyle, a gambler who is hiding out in Macau, China where his past begins to catch up to him. The psychological thriller also stars Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and Tilda Swinton.

The first images for Ballad of a Small Player show Colin Farrell gambling, walking through China, and in distress, highlighting the emotional state that the character will be in throughout the film. Little is known about the film beyond this Tudum release, but Ballad of a Small Player is set to be one of the most exciting films yet to release in 2025.

Ballad of a Small Player will release on Netflix on October 29, 2025.
