OFF CAMPUS SEASON 2 JUST CHANGED IN A BIG WAY π³ππ β Following a surprise cast exit, the creator has confirmed the upcoming season will take a different direction than originally planned. Fans are already wondering how the change will affect one of the most anticipated romances at Briar University. The story may not unfold the way readers expected
The Prime Video adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Off Campus book series is shifting gears for its second season following a major cast exit and an unexpected change to the show’s musical identity. During Prime Video’s Obsessed Fest, showrunner and creator Louisa Levy broke down exactly what Josh Heuston’s departure as Justin Kohl means for the upcoming episodes. Josh Heuston’s character became an instant fan favorite in the first season, but he will not be returning for Season 2 due to scheduling conflicts after lining up a major role in a Biblical horror-thriller film titled The First Exorcist. While Justin is sitting out this season, Levy clarified that the door remains wide open for a future return since the character eventually ends up with Stella in the books, a character the show has not introduced yet. Levy noted that while he won’t be in the next season, she loves Josh and would not write him off if she can find a way to bring Justin back at some point.
Because Heuston’s Justin and his band After Hours are out of the picture, and because Hannah Wells has completed the core of her songwriting journey, Season 2 is drastically scaling back its live performances. Fans will not see the campus music scene featured as heavily as it was in the debut season, as the creative team moves away from on-screen bands. While there will still be light music performed in the show, the production is relying much more on heavy needle drops and a traditional scored soundtrack to define the emotional beats of the episodes.
The structural format of the show is also undergoing a significant change as the production skips ahead in the source material. Rather than adapting the second book in the series, The Mistake, which centers on Logan and Grace, Season 2 is jumping straight to the third book, The Score. This means the central romance of the show will officially pivot to Dean Di Laurentis and Allie Hayes. Filming for the new season began on June 1, 2026, with a target release window set for Spring 2027.
