‘Mind blowing’ sci-fi thriller with Nicolas Cage leaving Netflix
Fans think that the film has to be seen for its unexpected ending but time is running out
It comes less than a year after the title became a surprise hit on the service. Despite Knowing only scoring a 35% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film managed to find a new audience and gain some new found appreciation thanks to its addition on Netflix.
At one point last year, it became one of the most watched films among subscribers. Unfortunately, now time is running out for more users to discover the title. A message on the service now says that the final day for people to watch is April 14.
According to the synopsis, the film’s story picks up fifty years after a time capsule was buried. It is unearthed and inside was a schoolgirl’s cryptic document. This falls into the hands of Caleb Koestler, the son of professor John Koestler, played by Nicolas Cage.

John figures out that the encoded message accurately lists every major disaster from the past five decades, and predicts three future calamities, with one being a global cataclysm. When his warnings fall on deaf ears, John enlists the help of the prophetic author’s daughter and granddaughter to try to avert the ultimate disaster.
While it may not have been a critical darling, the film still has plenty of fans that sing its praises. One of them posted online saying: “Highly underrated movie. Far better than most destruction, end of world movies.”
Another added: “I honestly don’t see how this film isn’t viewed for its masterful execution. I humbly believe that this film will someday be reappraised as being a seminal work in the disaster genre.”

While someone else commented: “Won’t ever forget this one, I can even tell my friends what happened and what are the highlights. Love the creepy parts and the suspenseful twist of events especially that mind blowing ending. Thumbs up!”
One person went so far as to claim: “One of the best science fiction films over the past 30 years. Keeps you on the edge of the sofa from start to end.
“Most if not all of the special effects are first class. Knowing is more spiritual in a sense and draws the attention towards the unknown future. The last scenes are very emotional and thought provoking.”
Another disagreed completely with some of the professional reviews. They argued: “Knowing works at every level. It is a brilliantly executed film. And the final is breathtaking.”
Knowing is streaming on Netflix until April 14.
