“Bridgerton” Star Jessica Madsen Won’t Marry Anyone On Screen Because She’s Found Her Lifetime Love in Another Woman

Madsen, who stars as Cressida Cowper in the Netflix series, wrote that she is “loud about it and proud about it”

Bridgerton‘s Jessica Madsen is opening up about her identity — and her love life — in a post celebrating the start of Pride Month.

On Saturday, June 1, Madsen, 32, shared a heartfelt post on her Instagram account, sharing some artwork celebrating the LGBTQ+ community, as well a historical photo of a march following the Stonewall Riots. The actress also shared a simple selfie, posing for the camera in a close-up as she wore a colorful tie-dyed T-shirt, rainbow rhinestones on her face and a bucket hat reading: “LOVE SUPREME.”

In the caption, Madsen wrote that she is “in Love with a woman, loud about it and proud about it!” and added the hashtags: “#pride #pridemonth #loveislove #gaypride.”

Several of her Bridgerton costars shared their support for Madsen’s post in the comment section, including Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, and Jonathan Bailey, who stars as Anthony Bridgerton.

Coughlan, 37, simply shared several heart emojis, while Bailey, 36, shared another series of emojis: “❤️🙌❤️.”

Hannah Dodd, who plays Francesca Bridgerton in the series, also sent her support, writing: “Love youuuuuu” with a yellow heart emoji.

Joanna Bobin, who plays Lady Cowper, chimed in: “Go baby girl! Love you,” while the author of the original Bridgerton book series, Julia Quinn, commented with a collection of rainbow heart emojis.

Madsen has been candid about her sexuality in the past. In June 2023, she opened up once again about her identity in a similar Instagram post, sharing graphics about bisexuality that read: “Bisexuals are not ‘confused'” and “bi af.” In the caption, she wrote: “Bi the way…. Happy Pride month 🌈❤️.”

“I mean, people are not the biggest fan of her,” she said of Cressida, adding that she gets “interesting comments and some interesting DMs” that read, “Thank you for letting me hate you so much,” or “I love hating you so much.”

Madsen joked that she responds to the messages, saying, “You’re welcome.”

“It makes me feel like I’ve done my job right,” she continued. “I really don’t take those things personally. But I like it when people who I meet have appreciated the show. Yeah. That’s always lovely.”

Also in her interview with PEOPLE, Masden teased that there may be “twists and turns” in store for her character in the second part of season 3.

“The mask is falling off Cressida. She’s becoming a human being. No, we’re getting to see her human side and why she is the way she is,” she said. “And yeah, that every mean girl has something beneath her. If we quote ‘mean girl’ as everyone likes to call her.”

“I personally don’t think she is, but hey, you know,” she added.
