Netflix quietly confirms the release window for the upcoming fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

Per Dexerto, the news came during Netflix’s Q2 Earnings Interview. During a discussion on what projects the streaming giant has planned for next year, CEO Ted Sarandos stated, “Looking forward through 2025, you’ve got new seasons of WednesdayStranger Things, and The Night Agent, and we’re in production on One Piece, so there’s a ton of excitement there just in our series.” While this provides a concrete window for Stranger Things Season 5, it also confirms fans’ worries that a 2024 release date was off the table after mutliple setbacks.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the release of Stranger Things‘ fifth and final season, which experienced delays during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. In May 2023, the Duffer Brothers released a joint statement explaining that “While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike.” Production on Stranger Things Season 5 resumed in February 2024, which gave fans little hope of a release date coming within the same year.

Ross Duffer Goes Behind the Scenes of Stranger Things

In July, co-creator Ross Duffer gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Stranger Things Season 5 with a social media post featuring a photo of the complete cast and crew of the series. “Week 24. Happy halfway to the best cast and crew ever,” Duffer wrote. The post also included a short video of Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler in the Duffer Brothers’ breakout hit series.

On July 16, it was confirmed that the Duffer Brothers would continue working with Netflix once Stranger Things is concluded as producers on Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen. Created by Haley Z. Boston, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is described as an “atmospheric horror series set at a wedding, following a bride and groom in the week leading up to their ill-fated nuptials. That’s not a spoiler – just read the title.” Of the new series, the Duffer Brothers said, “We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script.” Of Boston herself, the duo noted that “She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just… very Haley.”

Stranger Things Season 5 is currently slated to debut sometime in 2025.
