Gather ’round the tavern for some spoiler-free speculation.
Would you believe it? The House of the Dragon season 2 finale is already here. It felt like an eternity between season 1 and 2 of the Game of the Thrones prequel series—and now, there’s just one episode left before another (likely!) two-year hiatus.
Unlike Thrones, House of the Dragon is based on a finished story. While fans can read all of George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood to find out what happens, viewers have largely kept their word to not flood the Internet with potential spoilers. “It’s like they’re looking after each other,” Harry Collett (who plays Jacaerys Velaryon in House of the Dragon) told Esquire about the fans before episode 7. “If somebody comments on something like, ‘Do you know what happens in the books?’ they’re like, ‘Don’t click.’ It’s nice.”
Though we’ve already written about a fair bit of the story, the following theories for the season 2 finale are spoiler-free. Fear not, reader! If you’re looking to theorize in safety, the Reddit fans below have your back.
The Season 2 Finale Preview Teases a Naval Battle
House of the Dragon season 2 will likely end on another major battle in the war. Though audiences still feel the effects of episode 4’s losses, this is not a series that pulls punches. In the season 2 finale preview that aired following episode 7, it looks as if we’re heading out to sea. Multiple shots show Corlys (Steve Toussaint) and Alyn (Abubakar Salim) in armor, rowing out to the ship they’re repairing.
“I think this season has been building to a giant confrontation,” wrote Reddit user Narrow_Swordfish_937. “A sea blockade by Corlys Velaryon’s ships has cut off King’s Landing’s food supplies causing riots.” If you recall, Rhaenyra and Mysaria recently upped the townsfolks’ agitation by secretly shipping some food across the bay. “Aemond has recently reinstated Otto as his hand and one of his main goals this season has been to break the blockade,” the Reddit theorizer continued. “The Greens don’t have much of an armada, so they plan to contact the Triarchy.” Could the season 2 finale contain an epic naval battle?

The Remaining Dragons Will Assemble
As episodes 6 and 7 teased, Rhaena (Phoebe Campbell) will likely claim a wild dragon in the Vale. But that’s not the last dragon that House of the Dragon season 2 mentions. As Otto Hightower reveals, Alicent has another son in Oldtown named Daeron. He also has his own dragon, Tessarion. Though the character has yet to appear, it seems that audiences saw a brief glimpse of Tessarion flying overhead some soldiers in the season 2 finale preview. “Is that Tessarion flying over the green army?” one shocked Reddit user asked. We hope so!

Something Needs to Happen At Harrenhal
Daemon’s (Matt Smith) going crazy at Harrenhal. He’s been seeing ghosts and messing with the Riverlands ALL season. It’s time for something to actually happen there. In the season 2 finale preview, it seems he finally has his army and is ready to strike. Is a battle with Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) imminent? The new leader of Team Green is itching to take Harrenhal, and he’s seen flying over a city in the preview.
“Major deaths don’t need to happen at the end of seasons to be effective,” Reddit user KGFlower wrote. “Having a bunch of brand new riders on some very large dragons is a good enough reason to finally attack the city.” Whoa! Attack King’s Landing?! Forget Harrenhal. Let’s go for the big guns. Anything’s possible.
