George R.R. Martin’s Gritty Western Series Officially Debuts Tense Trailer Ahead of Season 4 Return

Fans of AMC’s Dark Winds, from executive producer George R. R. Martin (Game of Thrones), are getting a peek at the upcoming fourth season of the western noir thriller. The network dropped an official trailer for Dark Winds Season 4 ahead of its Feb. 15 premiere.

Dark Winds, which boasts a 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score, was created for television by Graham Roland and is based on author Tony Hillerman’s Leaphorn & Chee novel series. It stars Zahn McClarnon, Kiowa Gordon, Jessica Matten, and Deanna Allison.

Season 4 comes a year after Dark Winds Season 3 and will focus on the search for a missing Navajo girl who will take Leaphorn (McClarnon), Chee (Gordon), and Manuelito (Matten) “from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime.”

The trailer can be viewed below and comes with the tag line: “No matter how many times you ride out to the desert, you won’t sweat away who you are.” In addition to Martin, Dark Winds was also executive-produced by the late Robert Redford. The show follows the Navajo Tribal Police, led by Leaphorn, Chee, and Manuelito, as they solve mysteries on their reservation in the 1970s.

The fourth season of Dark Winds is set to introduce several new cast members, including Franka Potente as Irene Vaggan; Isabel DeRoy-Olson as Billie Tsosie; Chase Spencer as Sonny; Luke Barnett as FBI Agent Toby Shaw; and Titus Welliver as Dominic McNair. Season 4 will also feature the return of A. Martinez as Scarborough Police Department Acting Chief Gordo Sena.

The first three seasons of Dark Winds are streaming on AMC+ and Netflix. When the series made its way to Netflix in October 2025, it quickly found success at the streamer and was consistently among the Top 10 most-watched shows on Netflix.

Dark Winds has been praised by critics, especially McClarnon’s performance as the tribal police lieutenant. Reviews for Season 3 of the show labeled McClarnon’s performance as his “best material” yet. However, the show did draw some criticism from The Navajo Times, which panned its representation of Navajo people and its language. As a result, a Navajo cultural adviser was hired for the second season of the show.

Dark Winds Season 4 will premiere on Feb. 15 on AMC.
