Daniel Radcliffe says it would be wise for the upcoming “Harry Potter” television series on Max to distance itself from the iconic film series, which means the potential for him to cameo in the show is quite low. Radcliffe famously headlined eight “Harry Potter” movies in the title role from 2001 to 2011.
“I don’t think so,” he told E! Online when asked about starring in the series in any capacity. “I think they very wisely want to [have] a clean break. And I don’t know if it would work to have us do anything in it. I’m very happy to just watch along with everyone else.”
Radcliffe then politely backed out of any more “Harry Potter” television talk. When asked if Max had already asked him about being involved in the series, he responded, “I’m going to be a politician about this and not deal in hypotheticals.”
The actor has remained steadfast in keeping his distance from the new show. He told ComicBook last year that whatever the “Harry Potter” series ends up being, it should be a fresh start for the franchise.
“My understanding is that they’re trying to very much start fresh and I’m sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere,” Radcliffe said. “I’m definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I’m very excited to have that torch passed. But I don’t think it needs me to physically pass it.”
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav announced earlier this year that 2026 is being targeted as the launch for the “Harry Potter” television series on Max. The show is expected to span seven seasons, adapting each book in J.K. Rowling’s best-selling fantasy book series.
“We’ve not been shy about our excitement around Harry Potter,” Zaslav said. “We are just thrilled to be reigniting this franchise. Our conversations were great, and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s ahead. We can’t wait to share a decade of new stories with fans around the world on Max.”
No castings for the series have been announced yet.
