Fans of “The Chosen” can mark their calendars for the anticipated arrival of the show’s sixth season.

The latest installment of the popular TV series depicting the life of Jesus and his apostles will debut starting Nov. 15, Prime Video and 5&2 Studios, which produces the series, announced Friday.

Season 6 will chronicle Jesus’ final day, making the Good Friday announcement apt; Christians mark it as the day of Jesus’ crucifixion.

The season’s first three episodes will be released in the U.S. all at once, with subsequent episodes released once a week through Dec. 6. The season finale will be shown in movie theaters in spring 2027.

The Good Friday announcement included an image of actor Jonathan Roumie portraying Jesus wearing a crown of thorns and carrying a cross toward Calvary.

The new season also will be released internationally on Prime Video in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, sub-Saharan Africa, the United Kingdom and Latin America. The previous seasons of “The Chosen” can be streamed on Prime Video.

Much of Season 6 was filmed last summer in Utah at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Motion Picture Studios in Goshen, in southern Utah County.

The backlot can be dressed to look like ancient Jerusalem and is used by the church to produce videos reenacting stories from the Bible and the Book of Mormon.

“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” Dallas Jenkins, creator and executive producer of “The Chosen” and chairman and chief creative officer of 5&2 Studios, said in a statement.

“We realized this not only deserved a season of television,” Jenkins said, “but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well. We wrote and filmed all of it with this in mind.”
