Claire Danes is on a real heater. After winning multiple Emmy Awards and Golden Globes for her role as CIA officer Carrie Mathison in Homeland, she was nominated again for the critically acclaimed Fleishman Is in Trouble. Now, the actress is earning rave reviews once again as the lead in a Netflix limited series titled The Beast in Me.

Created by former X-Files writer Gabe Rotter, the psychological thriller follows author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) as she profiles a rich real estate magnate named Nile Jarvis (Matthew Rhys). Much like Robert Durst—the subject of HBO’s The Jinx—Jarvis is accused of murdering his ex-wife despite claiming that she mysteriously disappeared. Wiggs hopes to uncover the truth by writing his official biography. But after her son is killed in a car accident, she becomes intrigued by how her subject may have crossed the line so easily.

While we won’t spoil how the series ends, there’s some hope that Rotter and Danes will continue the story on Netflix. For everything we know so far, read on below.

The Beast in Me season 2 could follow Claire Danes’s character on a new case.

Will The Beast in Me Return for Season 2?

The Netflix drama is billed as a limited series, and it’s safe to say that the story finds a definitive end in episode 8’s finale. If The Beast in Me returns for season 2, the creative team will need to find a new story for Danes’s Auggie Wiggs to cover

“To the extent that Aggie is a writer who has been delivered to this next stage of her life, whatever that stage is… if there is a story, there might be more.” showrunner Howard Gordon told The Wrap. “I am tempted by the character of her grifter father in some way. We’ll see how the show does and if an idea comes. But I think they’d be open to more.”
