BROADCHURCH IS BACK! After a four-year hiatus, the award-winning British crime masterpiece finally makes its grand return to Netflix US — and fans couldn’t be more ready. 🎬 David Tennant and Olivia Colman’s haunting small-town mystery returns to where it all began, bringing back the tension, the heartbreak, and the secrets buried deep beneath those cliffs. ⚡ One question remains: after all these years… can Broadchurch ever truly heal?
Broadchurch Sets Netflix Return In US After Four Year Hiatus

November is shaping up to be an exciting month for British TV fans on Netflix US, with one of the UK’s most acclaimed crime dramas making a long-awaited return to the platform. Broadchurch, starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, is returning to Netflix on November 1st, 2025.
The series was previously available on Netflix from 2014, with seasons 2 and 3 added in 2015 and 2017. It then streamed in full for several years, ending in 2021, when it was pulled in its entirety on November 27th. Since then, it has popped up across many streamers, both big and small, in the United States, like BritBox, PBS Masterpiece, Peacock, The Roku Channel, PlutoTV, and Prime Video, among many others.
Only Netflix in the US is currently set to pick up the show, as far as our understanding goes, although the series also streamed in select international territories before, such as Australia and Canada.
Originally airing on ITV in the UK between 2013 and 2017, Broadchurch became a global phenomenon, running for three critically acclaimed seasons. The show follows Detectives Alec Hardy (Tennant) and Ellie Miller (Colman) as they investigate shocking crimes in a quiet seaside town, peeling back layers of secrets that grip the community. Its atmospheric tone, emotional writing, and powerhouse performances helped cement its place as one of the best British dramas of the decade.

Created by Chris Chibnall (later of Doctor Who fame), the series also features Jodie Whittaker, Andrew Buchan, Arthur Darvill, and David Bradley. Produced by Kudos and Imaginary Friends for ITV, the show’s U.S. rights are handled by Endemol Shine (now part of Banijay).
The return of Broadchurch continues a recent wave of high-profile British series being relicensed to Netflix, following similar moves with hits like Luther and Happy Valley. It’s part of a broader push to bolster Netflix’s drama library ahead of the winter season.
Could this lead to a season 4, which has been circling Facebook for the past few months? It doesn’t look like it. Chris Chibnall ruled out a fourth season entirely in 2019, telling RadioTimes, “That is it, and there will be no more after this one, absolutely.”
This is one of multiple British shows that have been picked up by Netflix in the US for the first time or are returning. As we covered yesterday, the streamer is also picking up the BBC/PBS Masterpiece series Little Women beginning November 1st. Although Netflix continues to stream many big British shows in its library in the United Kingdom, the same can’t be said in the United States. Fingers crossed, this is the start of a resurgence of British classics and perhaps even some newer shows heading to Netflix in the US.
