Nicola Coughlan got to enjoy Luke Newton’s secret talent live on Irish radio this week

Luke Newton revealed a secret talent in Ireland this week, surprising both fans and his Bridgerton co-star Nicole Coughlan.
The Netflix stars have been touring Ireland as part of an international press trip to promote the third season of Bridgerton ahead of the release of new episodes next week.
They’ve been taking part in a number of interviews and walking red carpets, as one would normally expect for a promotional tour. However, what no one was anticipating was to hear Newton singing on Irish radio.
It turns out that the British actor, who plays Colin Bridgerton on the hit show, has many talents up his sleeve, including singing.
Alison Curtis, who hosts Weekend Breakfast on Today FM, managed to get her hands on an old recording of Newton covering Rewrite the Stars from the film The Greatest Showman.
She played the track while Newton and Coughlan were appearing on her show, marking the first time the recording was featured on air.
Coughlan praised her co-star, saying: “Some pair of pipes on him”.
Newton, 31, said that he recorded the song when he was 22-years-old as a favor to a friend. “A friend asked me the day before,” he said.
“She had someone singing it with her, it was meant to be a demo track to send on, and she was like, ‘I’ve had someone drop out last minute can you come record with me?’. So I just hopped in the studio.”
Newton’s father is a singer, which he said has always had a big influence on him. As for the possibility of a future duet, however, he said singing together in his home at Christmas time is “as far as it goes”.
Newton is playing the love interest of Coughlan’s character Penelope Featherington in the most recent installment of Bridgerton. The pair have been asked about their intimate scenes a lot during their Irish tour, and Coughlan has repeatedly praised Newton in her responses.
She told Today FM that it was “terrifying” to think about some of the scenes at first but that they ended up being her favorites.
“We knew we were leading season three very early in season two so I had a long time to think about it,” the Co Galway native said.
