This Landman Character Desperately Needed Their Season 2 Glow Up

Landman season 2, episode 3 finally gave Ariana Medina (Paulina Chavez) a glow up that her character desperately needed. Single mom and widow Ariana kicked Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) out of her house in Landman season 2, episode 2, “Almost a Son.”

Ariana had largely been a supporting character in Landman season 1. Ariana’s husband, Elvio (Alejandro Akara), was killed in tragic oil drilling accident when Landman begins, leaving her as a grieving widow caring for their infant son. Enter Cooper Norris, who was attracted to Ariana and vice versa.

Landman season 1 detailed Cooper and Ariana’s quickie relationship, as Tommy Norris’ (Billy Bob Thornton) prodigal son soon moved into Ariana’s home. For her part, Ariana wrestled with her complex feelings of grieving for Elvio while also making room for Cooper in her heart.

Ariana Desperately Needed Landman Season 2’s Crucial Glow Up

Landman season 2, episode 3 finally gives Ariana a new story as she gets a job as a bartender at the Patch Cafe. Ariana is thrown right into the fire and copes with the leering eyes and harassment from the Patch Cafe’s surly patrons, who are mostly oil men.

The Patch Cafe brought out Ariana’s agency in a new way, as the reluctant bartender took no guff from the bar’s sleazy clientele. Ariana’s toughness and resilience were on full display. Ariana always possessed inner steel, and how she dealt with the roughnecks trying to sexually abuse her on the job was admirable.

Landman season 2, episode 3 was the best presentation of Ariana yet, and her character desperately needed separation from Cooper so that she could stand on her own. Ariana turns out to be a cool, self-possessed, and resourceful woman, and we agree with what Cooper sees in her.

Will Ariana & Cooper Reunite In Landman Season 2?

Ariana booted Cooper out of her house and ended their relationship after she feared a repeat of Elvio’s accident in Landman season 2, episode 2. Cooper didn’t argue leaving, which also seemed to disappoint Ariana, but she admirably moved on and decided to get a job.

However, the preview for Landman season 2, episode 4, “Dancing Rainbows” shows a brief glimpse of Ariana with Cooper at the funeral for his late grandmother. It seems that Ariana, at least, decides to support Cooper at the Norris family’s funeral even though they’re broken up.

Ariana and Cooper may not be completely done, but Ariana getting a job and her own avenue for Landman stories separate from Cooper is a step in the right direction. However, Ariana attending the funeral could also mean fireworks as she spends time with the Norris family.

Ariana instantly felt like a refreshingly vital new character when she stepped out and became a bartender in Landman season 2, episode 3. Whether or not she reunites with Cooper, Ariana’s forward progress and momentum will hopefully continue in Landman season 2.
