Netflix Bags Critically Acclaimed BBC Series ‘Poldark’ For The US
Another period drama series is hitting Netflix US!

Netflix has acquired the rights to another hit historical romance drama, Poldark, starring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson. It’s set to arrive imminently, with all five seasons expected to touch down on October 8th, 2025.
Based on the novels of the same name by Winston Graham, the series adaptation premiered a decade ago in 2015 and ran for five seasons, comprising 43 episodes, through 2019. It primarily aired on the BBC in the United Kingdom but was broadcast in the US by PBS.
The historical drama is set in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in Cornwall, England. The series follows the life of the eponymous protagonist, Ross Poldark, as he returns home from fighting in the American Revolutionary War.
Among the cast included:
Aidan Turner (The Hobbit film trilogy, Being Human, and The Suspect)
Eleanor Tomlinson (Jack the Giant Slayer, Colette, and The Illusionist)
Jack Farthing (Spencer, The Riot Club, and The Lost Daughter)
Heida Reed (One Day and FBI: International)
Kyle Soller (Brexit: The Uncivil War and Anna Karenina)
Luke Norris (The Inbetweeners Movie and The Colour Room)
Gabriella Wilde (Endless Love and Carrie)
Ruby Bentall (Lark Rise to Candleford and The Paradise)
Beatie Edney (Highlander and The Coroner)
Phil Davis (Vera Drake, Quadrophenia, and Whitechapel)
Caroline Blakiston (Return of the Jedi and The Fourth Protocol)

The series has been largely unavailable on streaming platforms in the US since its departure from Prime Video last year. Since then, the series has been exclusive to PBS and its Masterpiece Prime Channel, according to JustWatch. That makes sense given that PBS served as a co-production partner.
To date, this is the first time Poldark has been streamed on Netflix in the United States, although it has been available on the service elsewhere, including at present. Netflix UK, for instance, has held the series since 2016, with new seasons released annually. Per Unogs, the series is also currently available on Netflix in France, Belgium, and Switzerland. As of right now, the October pickup only applies to Netflix in the US.
It’s a busy month for newly licensed shows on Netflix US in October 2025, with the likes of The Way Home, Halo, and more AMC shows heading to the service, alongside numerous new Netflix Original projects. Although Netflix streamed many shows from the BBC and PBS throughout the 2010s, that’s not really been the case for the last five years or so, with many being snapped up by streaming rivals like BritBox and Acorn, among others. A key exception has been Call the Midwife, which, thankfully, continues to be released annually on Netflix following its initial run on BBC and PBS.
