Whigham’s character is tasked to arrest Cruise’s Ethan Hunt who had one of the keys to unlocking the Entity. Everyone knows how incredible and dangerous the stunts are in the movie, so one unforgettable scene with the lead star would definitely make up for all the long hours on set.

Shea Whigham Prefers A Scene With Tom Cruise In Mission: Impossible 8 Than Higher Payday

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor Shea Whigham revealed he told director Christopher McQuarrie that he wants a scene with Tom Cruise, even without the money or anything else.

I don’t want a bigger trailer. I don’t want more money. I don’t want better catering. I just want one scene between Tom and I, where you, McQ, write it like The Usual Suspects, and we get a chance to get in there.

For those who aren’t familiar, The Usual Suspects was a 1995 crime thriller movie written by McQuarrie. The filmmaker delivered, and Whigham did the scene with Cruise.

Later on, they went out to dinner, and the lead star said, “Do you realize that we come out one year from today? And it’s going to be a sprint to finish the f—king thing.”

Whigham admitted he could not explain how Cruise does his work. “What he’s doing now, people are going to be floored,” he teased for the upcoming Mission: Impossible 8. The actor also shared the film will be an adventure one, which is something McQuarrie and Cruise already planned out.

Shea Whigham recalled one of his scenes with Tom Cruise in the Mission: Impossible franchise and shared via DiscussingFilm his honest thoughts about it.

Pardon the cliché, but they aren’t making films like this anymore. Like, on the first day, you just jump right in. You don’t rehearse fighting on a train and, in my case, arresting Ethan on top of a speeding train. So, you just jump right up there!

They were going 60 miles per hour through a Norwegian valley and Whigham was screaming. “It was bitter cold, and it was, you know, terrifying in a sense,” he admitted. In this case, Whigham isn’t bothered by the danger that comes with performing stunts like this.

For some actors who have worked with Cruise in the Mission: Impossible films, there’s nothing more rewarding that makes all the effort worthwhile than sharing a scene with the iconic star.

Whigham does not even care if he gets extra pay or better food service on set; what matters is that he would share a solid scene with Cruise for the whole world to see.

Mission: Impossible 8 hits theaters on May 23, 2025.
