A recent poll crowned Elton John and Eminem as Britain’s favourite odd pairing, beating out some truly wild competitors.
Brits have revealed their favourite unlikely duos – and leading the list is the enduring friendship between Elton John and Eminem. The poll, conducted with 2,000 adults, also highlighted duos like GK Barry and Rev Richard Coles, Han Solo and Chewbacca, and Lady Gaga with Tony Bennett.
Commissioned by Twix for their “Two is more than one” campaign, the poll celebrated both real-life and fictional bonds that surprised and delighted fans.
The research also found other iconic duos included actors Laurel and Hardy (42%), TV presenters Ant and Dec (31%), comedians French and Saunders (25%), the Beatles’ own Paul McCartney and John Lennon (29%) and rock legends Mick Jagger and Keith Richards (16%), as well as Noel and Liam Gallagher (12%).
Elton and Em’s bond might have seemed out of the blue back in 2001, especially considering the backlash Eminem was facing at the time. GLAAD and other organisations accused him of using homophobic language, so when Elton, an openly gay pop icon, chose to stand beside Eminem, it caused a stir. His support did not change everyone’s opinion, but it showed that not everyone in the LGBTQ+ community saw Eminem the same way.
Their onstage handshake and later, Elton publicly supporting Em through his journey to sobriety, turned their relationship from headline-worthy into something deeper and long-lasting.
So now we are asking: What’s your favourite unexpected duo with Eminem? Let us know!
