The gaming community is not all on board with the idea of remaking the original God of War trilogy.
God of War has been around for the past few years, and the gaming community was blown away by the spectacle and violence of the original trilogy featuring Greek mythology and the Olympian Gods. The franchise has moved on to a different pantheon; however, some fans are still stuck in the past.
The gaming community has yet to move on from the original Greek trilogy and is campaigning for it to be remade with the same engine graphics as the recent games. However, only some people are on board with the idea, especially after other franchises went down this path.
Remaking the Original God of War Trilogy May Not Be the Best Idea
The developers over at Santa Monica Studio were on top of their game in the past few years working on the franchise. The gaming community had a sliver of hope after the various set pieces from the Valhalla DLC were directly taken from the Greek Saga and took the time to recreate certain assets and cameos from notable characters like Helios from the original God of War trilogy.
Remaking a game from the ground up for the current generation has been the approach many game developers have taken, like Naughty Dog with The Last of Us Part I. Some fans appreciate preserving classic titles; however, the game is only a decade old, remastered once for the PlayStation 4, and can be used on the PlayStation 5.
Other fans are looking forward to the idea of remaking the Greek Saga, unlike in the same vein as The Last of Us Part I, which is the same game with only updated graphics and physics from the sequel. The gaming community hopes the remake trilogy will flesh out the lore and connect the dots from one game to the next for a much more cohesive experience that will smoothly transition to the next.
Some fans pointed out that The Last of Us franchise isn’t exactly free from public criticism. Naughty Dog has not released an original game for the current generation and relies on remasters and remakes, and Santa Monica Studio could end up with the same problem.
Players are worried that this remake would become a lazy cash grab for Sony rather than a passion project. Profit is vital in the game industry; however, it can compromise quality and end up being something that would tarnish a franchise.
The Combat and Visuals in God of War Ragnarok Could Benefit the Original Trilogy

The Norse Saga introduced a new one-shot camera technique that improved immersion. This technique could be applied to the remake of the God of War OG trilogy for a smoother experience.
An argument can be made that remaking the Greek Saga is inevitable given the high demand, and younger audiences would not have access to older gaming consoles to revisit these gems. Perhaps the outdated graphics and combat mechanics do not appeal to them, and they would prefer to play something familiar and modern.
Remaking or remastering a game will likely cost the gaming community a little extra. Naughty Dog released three versions of The Last of Us, and the PlayStation 5 version was charged at full price. Perhaps fans are worried about Sony milking the franchise for all it is worth.
The original trilogy was great, however, modern visuals could improve the experience. Santa Monica Studio must tread carefully if this rumored remake trilogy is greenlit.
