Taylor Sheridan’s long-awaited ‘Yellowstone’ spinoff just dropped a casting bombshell — a five-time Oscar nominee is officially saddling up.
This powerhouse addition promises to bring intensity, grit, and a fresh layer of drama to Sheridan’s expanding Western universe.

👉 The stakes just got higher, and the ranch will never be the same.

Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser in Yellowstone

The world of Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone is expanding yet again, and the new spinoff that’s set to debut next year just cast a five-time Academy Award nominee who’s definitely going to bring a lot of prestige to the series. Premiering back in 2018, Sheridan’s Yellowstone became one of the most popular neo-Western dramas of the century, and rightfully so. The tale of the Dutton family and their struggles to maintain their ranch was one of the most engrossing TV shows in recent memory, heightened only by the tremendous performances of its cast, and a little controversy thanks to the departure of star Kevin Costner shortly before the series concluded.

Per Deadline, the new spinoff that’s set to focus on the further adventures of Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) has just cast Annette Bening in a leading role. She joins the returning cast members, which also includes Finn Little as Carter, and per the outlet, she’s set to portray “Beulah Jackson, the powerful, cunning, and charming head of a major ranch in Texas.”

The series has also brought Chad Feehan on board to serve as showrunner, who is no stranger to working with Sheridan. As creator of Lawman: Bass Reeves, he also acted as showrunner for the Western miniseries, which was produced by the Yellowstone head. Little is known about the plot specifics for Season 1 of what’s tentatively being called The Dutton Ranch, but based on the brief synopsis, fans can expect the same intrigue and drama that was present in the flagship hit:

“The Dutton Ranch, home to Beth Dutton (Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Hauser), is a testament to the peace they sought, fought for, and nearly died for, as they’ve come to cherish their 7,000-acre land. With tough times and stiff competition, Beth and Rip do what they must to survive, all while ensuring Carter (Little) becomes the man he’s supposed to be.”

Beth and Rip Aren’t the Only Characters Getting a ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff

While it makes sense that Sheridan wants to explore what happened to Beth and Rip following the epic conclusion to Yellowstone in 2024 that saw the fiery Dutton daughter purchase a bunch of land near Dillon, Montana, the lovebirds aren’t the ones getting their own spinoff series. Luke Grimes is set to reprise his role of Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals, which is a CBS procedural show that’s also set to premiere in 2026.

The series will follow Kasey, his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and son Tate (Brecken Merrill) as the family navigates their new life on the Broken Rock Reservation, where they’ve set up their own ranch. The 13-episode first season has yet to begin production, but based on all accounts, it’s set to begin filming in late summer or early fall, and will utilize Kayce’s past upbringing as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to deliver fans a weekly dose of justice, Yellowstone style.

Several other spinoffs are also in the works, including the prequel 19446666, and The Madison starring Michelle Pfeiffer, which has already completed filming. We’ll have more news on all of those, and more, as it becomes available. For now, all five seasons of Yellowstone are available to stream on Peacock.
