Some very big names have appeared in the Harry Potter movies!
The casts in the eight films based on the book franchise by J.K. Rowling have been filled with critically acclaimed actors and actresses.
We’re now taking a look at the six Oscar-winning stars that have appeared in the Harry Potter movies – and there are two actress that have won two Oscars each!
Emma Thompson
Emma Thompson, who played Professor Trelawney in the movies, has won two Oscars. She first won Best Actress in 1993 for Howards End then won Best Adapted Screenplay for Sense and Sensibility in 1996.
Gary Oldman
Gary Oldman, who played Sirius Black in the movies, won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2018 for his role in Darkest Hour.
Jim Broadbent
Jim Broadbent, who played Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in 2001 for his role in Iris.
Julie Christie
Julie Christie, who played barkeep Madam Rosmerta in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, won the Oscar for Best Actress in 1965 for her role in Darling.
Kenneth Branagh, who played Professor Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay in 2022 for Belfast.
Maggie Smith
Maggie Smith, who played Professor McGonagall in the movies, has won two Oscars. She first won Best Supporting Actress for Othello in 1965 then won the same award again in 1978 for California Suite.
