From the first-ever three-Coach lineup to a fierce competition within the Blind Auditions and Druski’s totally role as a commentator, The Voice is shaking things up for Season 29. Monday nights on NBC have officially added more action now that The Voice: Battle of Champions is officially underway.
With three veteran Coaches all with wins under their belts, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Levine, John Legend are more competitive than ever this time around. Specifically when it comes to scoring a country Artist for their teams, now that OG Coach Blake Shelton isn’t seated in a red chair. Levine, however, revealed during Season 29’s premiere that he’s been hesitant to turn his chair for country singers.
“Blake Shelton has ruined me. He wounded me deep down in my soul,” Levine said during the February 23 episode of The Voice.Â
Still, Clarkson teased to NBC Insider that the country battle ends up balanced. “It was even, which it usually is not,” Clarkson revealed during a press junket about this season’s teams. “We all had a chance at country.”
“In the absence of the cowboy,” Legend added, “it made it so the country [Artists] were more evenly distributed.”

The Voice Season 29 has introduced a totally new voting format
One of the format updates to The Voice Season 29 is the introduction of a new voting system. Instead of the traditional way of voting for The Voice winner online or on the app, there’s now a new voting block comprised of super fans and past Artists in the studio audience who will vote for their favorites in real time during the Semi-Finals and Finale.
“This is the first season that the voting is in-house,” Clarkson revealed at the press junket. “That’s never happened, which is exciting. It’s different on TV than when you’re in the room… the energy in the room is different, it sounds different, it’s a different thing… So I’m excited about that, I’m also nervous about that.”
“We’ve never seen it before,” Legend added. “It’ll be like a little scientific experiment for figuring out how this goes.”
