Wednesday season 2 has a perfect way to bring back Gwendoline Christie as Principal Weems, and the Netflix series wouldn’t even need to resurrect her character to do it. Christie portrays the principal of Nevermore Academy during Wednesday’s first year there, but the ending of Wednesday season 1 sees her dying at the hands of Marilyn Thornhill. After Marilyn Thornhill reveals her true identity — Laurel Gates — she uses Nightshade poison to rid Nevermore Academy of its leader. This eliminates the school’s best defense so that Laurel can enact her evil plans.
Fortunately, Wednesday and her friends are able to stop Laurel from destroying Nevermore Academy, but the untimely demise of Principal Weems weighs heavily on the finale. It’s somewhat surprising that Wednesday kills her character off so early, especially given how popular Christie is after Game of Thrones. Her character had too much potential to have such a short-lived arc. It’s disappointing that she may not be back for Wednesday season 2 — though there is one way that the show can return her to Nevermore Academy without undoing her season 1 fate.
Wednesday Season 2 Can Bring Back Principal Weems As A Ghost
This Is An Easy Way To Continue Her Story Without Resurrecting Her

If Wednesday season 2 wants to bring Principal Weems back, it can do so without retconning her season 1 death. As one Reddit theory notes, the Netflix show can bring Christie’s character back as a ghost, having her presence remain at Nevermore Academy even if she isn’t still alive. This would allow Wednesday to explore the character in further depth without resorting to convoluted plot devices to bring her back to life. It would also enable the show to carry on with Nevermore Academy’s new principal, who could even use Weems’ ghost for guidance in season 2.
Weems returning as a ghost could also open the door for Wednesday to explore her backstory, digging into what made her tick when she was still alive. The show will need a reason for her spirit to remain, and tying it to Nevermore Academy is the perfect way to expand on her character. It wouldn’t be outlandish for the world the Netflix series is set in, either.
Having Weems Return As A Ghost Wouldn’t Be Weird For Wednesday’s World
It Fits With The Netflix Show’s Other Supernatural Elements

Bringing Principal Weems back as a ghost is an easy step for Wednesday season 2 to take, as such a twist would fit right in with the other supernatural elements of the series. Wednesday has no shortage of bizarre phenomena during its first season, and Nevermore Academy seems like the sort of place a ghost would reside. The fact that Goody’s spirit appears to Jenna Ortega’s lead during the first outing confirms that ghosts and spirits exist in this world. It wouldn’t be far-fetched for Weems to return as one, especially if she feels her work at Nevermore isn’t finished.

Wednesday‘s exploration of creatures like Hydes and werewolves also firmly sets the Netflix show in the realm of fantasy and horror. And with Wednesday season 2 promising more horror, including more ghosts feels like a natural progression for the new episodes. Of course, it’s unlikely that Weems would be a scary ghost — though it’d make for an intriguing twist. More likely, Weems would serve as some sort of guardian at Nevermore Academy. It feels in character for her, and it gives the Netflix show the opportunity to have Christie reprise her role.
Wednesday’s Weems Theory Brings Her Back Without Undoing Her Season 1 Death
It Wouldn’t Hurt The Netflix Show’s Stakes

Bringing Principal Weems back as a ghost is ideal because it doesn’t undo the tragedy of her death in Wednesday season 1. Too many TV series resurrect characters after they make meaningful sacrifices or meet tragic ends. This can hurt such stories in the long run, making it feel as though there aren’t any real stakes when characters are in danger. Wednesday would weaken season 1’s conclusion if it somehow resurrected Weems. Fortunately, its supernatural themes give it an easy out.
By keeping Weems around as a spirit, Wednesday can assure viewers that its character deaths are permanent — but still bend the rules enough to explore anyone who still has a story to tell. Season 1 doesn’t spend a ton of time with Christie’s character, and there’s little doubt the series can weave an interesting tale around her if it chooses to. Hopefully, Wednesday season 2 will make the effort to bring Christie back. There’s no reason not to, and it would benefit from utilizing her talent again.
