Shondaland’s Bridgerton captivated fans with searing romance and sizzling chemistry when it hit screens in 2020. After a highly successful second season with Kate and Anthony, fans are now waiting for the third to hit Netflix with bated breath. Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s Regency romance novels of the same name, but Season 3 is based on the fourth book rather than the third from the series.

The show is known to take liberties with its source material in the previous two seasons. However, the love interests have remained the same as the Bridgerton books so far. Fans who can’t wait long enough for every season to come out can look to the novels to find out who the Bridgerton siblings married throughout the years.

Updated on March 2nd, 2024 by Fawzia Khan: The Bridgerton siblings left fans enraptured with their family dynamics, and more importantly, their love stories. The Shondaland show differed quite a bit from the Julia Quinn books, but the essence of the Bridgertons was maintained throughout. This list has been updated with better formatting and new information about Anthony, Benedict, Colin, Daphne, Eloise, Francesca, Gregory, and Hyacinth’s beautiful lives.

8Daphne Bridgerton Was The First Of The Family To Fall In Love

Daphne and Simon pose together in Bridgerton promotional image.

Daphne is portrayed by actress Phoebe Dynevor.
Bridgerton is not historically accurate, which was intentional on the part of Shonda Rhimes and Chris Van Dusen. The latter said in a Town & Country interview “We knew we wanted the show to reflect the world we live in today, and even though it’s set in the 19th century, we still wanted modern audiences to relate to it and to see themselves on screen.”

Bridgerton made its way to the scene with Daphne Bridgerton’s story from The Duke and I, which inevitably made it one of the best period dramas on Netflix. Daphne was the fourth-eldest sibling in the Bridgerton brood but the eldest daughter at 21. She married Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, and they had five children together.

In the show, Simon and Daphne met during her first season when she was declared “the diamond of the first water” and came up with a plan that would serve them both: they would fake a courtship so that Daphne could attract more eligible bachelors as a duke’s first choice; Simon would be left alone in the marriage mart as he would already have a beau. Their fake relationship led to natural chemistry, which led to a hasty marriage because Anthony spotted Daphne and Simon in a compromising position. After marriage, Daphne and Simon overcame new challenges but eventually had a happy family.

7Anthony Bridgerton Met His Match In Kate Sharma

Anthony is portrayed by actor Jonathan Bailey.
Simone Ashley and Jonathan Bailey did a chemistry read which was viewed by Bridgerton producers and showrunners over Zoom. The read was an instant hit.

Anthony was the eldest Bridgerton sibling and, therefore, the viscount after his father’s untimely death. He had a familial duty to find a wife so the family would have a viscountess and carry the Bridgerton name forward. In The Viscount Who Loved Me, Anthony married Kate Sheffield (Sharma in the show) after a brief courtship with Edwina Sheffield when he was 29.

The television adaptation of Bridgerton deviated from the books as Anthony and Edwina never reached the altar because Kate never gave her approval for Anthony to marry her sister. Instead, Kate got stung by a bee as the two of them spoke on the grounds of Aubrey Hall, and Anthony decided to save her by sucking the venom from her bosom. They were caught in this compromising position by Lady Violet, Mrs. Sheffield, and Lady Featherington and had to get married. Because of his own fears, it took Anthony a while to admit that he loved Kate, but he realized it when he almost lost his wife.

6Benedict Bridgerton Was The Artsy Bridgerton Sibling With A Fairytale Romance

Benedict is portrayed by actor Luke Thompson.
New Bridgerton Season 3 showrunner Jess Brownell explained the decision to postpone Benedict’s story to Season 4 in an EW interview. She said, “We’ve been watching Pen’s crush and seeing how oblivious Colin is to it. That’s a dynamic that you can only play out for so long before something has to change. This really felt like the right time to lean into what’s been set up with them. On the Benedict side, he’s such a fun character and such a fan favorite that we are really excited to play with him for a little bit more and let him have more fun before he settles down.”

Between King George’s illness in Queen Charlotte and Edmund’s death in Bridgerton, the two TV shows have broken fans’ hearts many times.

In Julia Quinn’s series, Benedict was the third to get married as the second-eldest sibling of the Bridgerton family. Just like the show, Benedict was an artist who loved painting in An Offer From a Gentleman. In a Cinderella-esque twist, he met the love of his life, Sophie Beckett, during a masquerade ball, after which she promptly disappeared. Sadly, Sophie was the bastard child of the late Earl of Penwood and treated terribly by her stepmother.

After two years, Benedict rescued Sophie, now a servant, from an inappropriate employer, not knowing she was his dream girl. Rather unromantically, he asked Sophie to be his mistress, which she refused. Ultimately, Sophie’s identity was revealed, the besotted couple got married, and her stolen dowry was retrieved with Benedict and Lady Bridgerton’s help.

5Colin Bridgerton Had To Grow Up Immensely To Be Worthy of Penelope

Colin is portrayed by actor Luke Newton.
Penelope and Colin’s intimate scenes were easier for the actors because they were friends. Luke Newton said in an EW interview, “I feel like there’s always that question being asked of, is it easier to do the intimacy scenes or the more romantic scenes with someone who is your friend of four years or someone you just met for one day? I can safely say it’s easier with a friend. There really is that sort of support.”

Colin Bridgerton will lead in the upcoming Bridgerton Season 3, but he was fourth in line for marriage in the books. Using the friends-to-lovers trope, Colin fell for his sister’s best friend, Penelope Featherington, after years of ignoring her. Colin returned from his extensive travels at the time that Penelope accepted herself as a spinster and started seeing her in a different light.

At the same time, Lady Danbury offered a rather large sum of money to anybody who could unmask Lady Whistledown, leading to a frenzy in the ton. When Colin discovered that Penelope was Whistledown, it led to an impassioned make-out between them in their carriage, which Colin promptly proposed to her. When Cressida Cowper tried to blackmail Penelope, the entire Bridgerton family banded together to protect her and let the town know that her work as Whistledown was an achievement.

4Eloise Bridgerton Was The Rebellious Bridgerton Sibling

Eloise is portrayed by actress Claudia Jessie.
Bridgerton has filmed in some of the same locations as The Crown.

True to Eloise’s character, she chose to marry in the most unconventional way possible. In To Sir Phillip, With Love, Marina was a distant cousin to the Bridgertons, and her unfortunate death led to a chain of epistolary correspondence between her husband, Phillip Crane, and Eloise. Surprisingly, Phillip asked Eloise to be his wife in a letter, and Eloise turned up at his house without informing anyone or a chaperone.

However, Phillip was not the warm and caring person she thought he would be, but after seeing his behavior when her brother’s son was sick, Eloise realized she cared for him. Slowly, she realized that Phillip had been a victim of abuse and thus could not open his heart to anyone. With her spirited personality, Eloise was the perfect person to teach him how to live his life to the fullest, which she did. This Bridgerton couple had three more children together.

3Francesca Bridgerton Had A Turbulent Romance

Francesca stands with Violet and Hyacinth in Bridgerton.

Francesca is portrayed by actresses Ruby Stokes and Hannah Dodd.
Ruby Stokes left Bridgerton Season 2 after shooting only three episodes because of her commitment to Lockwood & Co . which was canceled later. This was why she was replaced by Hannah Dodd.

The sixth Bridgerton sibling, Francesca, had a tumultuous love life in When He Was Wicked. She initially married John Stirling, the Eighth Earl of Kilmartin, but he died two years later. The title was then inherited by his cousin, Michael, who had been in love with Francesca but kept his feelings to himself. Unable to process the situation, Michael ran away to India for years.

Upon his return, he found that Francesca was ready to remarry, but she ran away when the tension between them culminated in a kiss. With Colin’s help, Francesca and Michael were able to recognize their feelings for each other but took their sweet time to get married. When they did, however, it was obvious that it was the best decision for the two lovers.

2Hyacinth Bridgerton Found The Perfect Match In Gareth

Hyacinth Bridgerton stands in front of her estate in Bridgerton.

Hyacinth is portrayed by actress Florence Hunt.
Florence Hunt made her TV debut playing a younger Nimue in Netflix’s Arthurian fantasy series Cursed . Bridgerton is her second role.

Hyacinth was the youngest in the gaggle of Bridgerton brothers and sisters and on her fourth season on the marriage mart when she met Gareth St. Clair, the bastard son of a baron. Gareth shared a terrible relationship with his father for this reason in It’s in His Kiss and had an old diary written in Italian that had information about who his father was. Thankfully, Hyacinth Bridgerton could translate it for him.

Seeing their closeness, both families agreed that Hyacinth and Gareth were the perfect match. The baron posed many challenges to Gareth’s inheritance, complicating his relationship with Hyacinth. However, it took two proposals and the explosive revelation of Gareth’s birth father (the baron’s brother) for this couple to get married and have two kids.

1Gregory Bridgerton Was The Youngest Bridgerton

Gregory is portrayed by actor Will Tilston.
Bridgerton was Will Tilston’s television debut. He will likely have a starring role in the last season of the show, if not recast.

Gregory’s love story with Lady Lucinda “Lucy” Abernathy was told in the last book of the series (excluding prologues). The second-youngest Bridgerton sibling initially set his sights on the beautiful Hermione Watson, and Lucy agreed to help him court her. In the process, Lucy fell for Gregory but was already betrothed to someone else.

When Hermione Watson got swept away by the Earl of Fennsworth, Gregory was left without a companion, but he and Lucy shared a drunken kiss before her wedding. Strangely, despite Gregory’s best efforts, Lucy was treated more like a commodity than a woman in her engagement, culminating in a wedding to Lord Haselby. After a whirlwind of blackmail and scheming, the Bridgertons were able to help Lucy annul her marriage, after which she got married to Gregory. They went on to have nine children.
