Tom Holland has risen to prominence as one of Hollywood’s leading actors since his debut as Spider-Man in the MCU. And it seems that the actor had a change of heart regarding his future in the franchise. As he gears up to reprise his role in the cinematic universe, he has expressed a desire to explore more possibilities with the role.
This stance, however, differs from his earlier uncertainty about portraying the superhero. Around the time of No Way Home’s release, Holland had contemplated his future as the superhero, saying that he was not sure if he would continue playing the character in the future.
Tom Holland Shared Uncertainty About His Future in the MCU
There are many perks to portraying a popular character like Spider-Man. And Tom Holland, who has embodied the character since the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War, has also received immense love and praise for taking on the role in the MCU.

However, in a 2021 interview with GQ, he expressed his desire to move on from the role, suggesting that it might be time for him to explore other opportunities. “Maybe it is time for me to move on,” he told the outlet, as he proposed the idea of the studio exploring Miles Morales instead. He further stated,
“I have to take Peter Parker into account as well because he is an important part of my life — If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong.”
The actor seemed to suggest that it might not be a good career move for him to be associated with a single character for this long while expressing his desire for career diversity and growth beyond the superhero role. And since his last venture in the MCU, he has indeed pursued this path.

Holland has expanded his repertoire with diverse projects such as Uncharted and the psychological thriller series The Crowded Room, not only by starring in them but also by serving as an executive producer for the film and the series.
He is also set to take on the role of Romeo in Jamie Lloyd’s revival of Romeo & Juliet. Despite his forays into other roles, it appears that the 27-year-old actor is poised to reprise his superhero role in the upcoming installment of the film series.
Tom Holland is Open to Reprise His Marvel Role
Despite his previous reservations about reprising the role, the Uncharted star shared that he would be open to reprising his role as the web-swinging superhero in a recent conversation with Deadline, as he described it as a career-defining role for him.
When asked if he would return as the superhero in the MCU, he said,
“The simple answer is that I’ll always want to do Spider-Man films — I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I’ll always want to do more.”
He reflected on the upcoming fourth installment in the Spider-Man film series, stating that any new stories would be handled with care. He also discussed his involvement in the creative process of the film, saying that he is enjoying “watching and learning” as they ensure the story avoids excessive repetition.
