The Umbrella Academy is preparing for its fourth and final season, and an official image from this season teases the return of a fan-favorite villain from season 1. After three successful seasons with shocking twists, turns, and reveals, The Umbrella Academy is ending with its fourth season. The Umbrella Academy season 3 ended on a major cliffhanger with Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) revealing his real intentions: using his adopted children to power a machine in Hotel Oblivion that allowed him to reset the timeline and create one of his own.
The Umbrella Academy Season 4’s Promotional Image Sets Up Cha-Cha’s Return
One Important Detail Teases Cha-Cha’s Long-Awaited Return
As the audience waits for a proper teaser and trailer for The Umbrella Academy season 4, more promotional images are being revealed. The latest images come from EW, and though they don’t show much as there’s no context behind them, there are some key details in them that can hint at what’s to come for the Hargreeves. One of these images shows all the Umbrella Academy members, Sparrow Ben, and Lila in what seems like an abandoned parking lot with an old van named “Wanda”, which belongs to Diego (David Castañeda).
The object that stands out the most is the mask of a pink bear, exactly like the one Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) wore in season 1.
Although the attention goes straight to Klaus confronting Lila while the rest simply stare at them, there are various objects scattered on the floor, such as car parts, light bulbs, what looks like a stuffed toy, and more. However, the object that stands out the most is the mask of a pink bear, exactly like the one Cha-Cha (Mary J. Blige) wore in season 1. As the Hargreeves did their best to prevent the apocalypse, Five (Aidan Gallagher) was being hunted by Hazel (Cameron Britton) and Cha-Cha, two Commission agents tasked with stopping Five from preventing the end of the world.
While Hazel grew disillusioned with his life as an agent of The Commission and planned to leave after falling in love with the owner of a doughnut store, Cha-Cha was ruthless, highly dangerous, and very loyal to The Commission and its mission. At the end of The Umbrella Academy season 1, the apocalypse couldn’t be prevented, but the Hargreeves jumped to the past to save themselves, while Hazel and Agnes left with one of The Commission’s briefcases. As for Cha-Cha, she was left with no way out, and she died in the apocalypse.
Mary J. Blige’s Umbrella Academy Return Is A Long Time Coming
Cha-Cha Is One Of The Umbrella Academy’s Most Popular Antagonists
Cha-Cha in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy is different from the one in the comic books, though they’re both dangerous agents who stop at nothing to fulfill their missions. Despite this, the series’ version of Cha-Cha was very well-received by the audience, who were very welcoming of the changes and Blige’s performance. Because of this, viewers have demanded her return, more so as Hazel returned, though briefly, at the beginning of season 2 to guide Five, but was killed by The Commission’s Swedish assassins.
Although The Umbrella Academy has had a variety of antagonists, Cha-Cha has been the most violent one, as she not only used strategy but was also trained in combat and weapons to better fulfill The Commission’s tasks. There’s a lot more to learn and see from Cha-Cha, and The Umbrella Academy season 4 can be her long-awaited return.
How Season 4 Can Bring Back Cha-Cha Despite Her Season 1 Death
The Umbrella Academy has seen the Hargreeves in different timelines, such as 2019, the 1960s, and an alternate version of 2019. Their current timeline is the one Reginald created, and it’s unclear what exactly this timeline reset and brought back, so Cha-Cha could be alive and well in it. The Umbrella Academy season 4 also seems to be delving into a multiverse, which makes sense given all the timelines created and reset by the Hargreeves throughout three seasons. With this in mind, Cha-Cha could easily return as part of another timeline where things went better for her.
As it’s unknown when exactly the image of the Hargreeves and Wanda is set, it could be possible that it’s from another timeline where Cha-Cha is alive and active as a Commission agent, or if it’s from the current Reginald-designed timeline, it would mean that Cha-Cha was brought back in the reset and that The Commission is back and active again.
