One of the stars of Netflix series The Umbrella Academy has spoken about his gruelling final day on set, which included spending several hours being buried alive.

All eight episodes of the fourth and final season of The Umbrella Academy are set to land on the drop on the streaming site tomorrow (8 August), with fans gearing up to say their final goodbyes to the Hargreeves siblings.

Based off of the comic-book series of the same name – co-written by My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way – the show follows the adopted children of Sir Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) who repeatedly find themselves on a time travelling journey to save the world from various existential threats.

The superhero siblings are played by Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Aidan Gallagher and Justin H. Min and Robert Sheehan – with the former Misfits star recently opening up on his gruelling filming schedule for the final season.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his final days playing the role of Klaus Hargreeves, Sheehan revealed his final day on set had been particularly strenuous for one reason.

“Last day on set was a gruelling day where I was buried alive over and over and over again,” he said.

“It was the most Promethean day I’ve had on the set of Umbrella Academy, because I was in and out of quite a snug coffin for about 14 hours.”

Sheehan didn’t reveal what had caused his character to end up in such a frightening predicament, however the actor did joke that he’d had plenty of time to perfect his reaction to being buried alive.

“It’s called, ‘Aaaaaagh!’ Ect cetera. See? Range,” Sheehan added.

Being buried alive may sound like most people’s worst nightmare, however it’s not Sheehan’s first brush with the unpleasant experience as his character Nathan McMullen in E4’s Misfits discovers he’s immortal after waking up in a coffin.

As for what is expected to happen in the final season of The Umbrella Academy, we’d imagine the new episodes will see the siblings coming to terms to life without their powers.

In the finale for season three, patriarch Reginald created a new timeline and the Hargreeves siblings, now powerless, have to fend off more enemies than before.

“Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal, with wildly varying degrees of success,” a synopsis for season four reads.

“Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father, Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire. A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie, and a great reckoning is coming.

“As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure, to finally set things right.”
