Robert Sheehan tells all ahead of Netflix show’s final season.

The Umbrella Academy actor Robert Sheehan has shared his worst day filming the popular Netflix series.

In an interview with Men’s Journal, ahead of the release of The Umbrella Academy season 4 on Netflix on August 9th, Sheehan (pictured in yellow below) detailed a shoot involving fast-moving vehicles.

The location: a disused highway in northern Ontario where his character, Klaus, is spending the whole day getting hit by cars and buses and trucks.

The show's actors sit in a luggage transporter.

“So there’s this big montage in series three where Klaus has to learn how to die better,” says Sheehan. “So Reggie basically throws him out in front of traffic and shoots. That was, I suppose, quite uncomfortable because you’re sort of lying in the road, big giant truck exhaust pipes next to you, going driving off.”

It was, says Sheehan, one of those days you spent the whole day outdoors, “and the elements draw every last calorie of energy out of you.”

That’s not to say filming The Umbrella Academy was all bad. “There are many really fun memories of stuff,” says Sheehan. So, why the decision to finish with season 4?

“[Showrunner] Steve Blackman, from the very get-go, told us that in his head he had a four series arc, kind of generally vaguely broad strokes plotted out, and so obviously he shared that with Netflix, and the time was right for them too to kind of end it.”

“With a show like Umbrella Academy, when the ultimate jeopardy is the destruction of the whole world, you can’t keep going back to that.”

As for what Sheehan is up to post-Umbrella Academy, the actor is embarking on a book tour. “I’ve done my second book, which is called Playing Dead: How Meditation Brought Me Back to Life, and the first of those tour dates is in sort of mid-ish August.”

“After that, who knows. I don’t know, the bread line?”
