Dr. Dre-produced album ‘Missionary’ is due Dec. 13
Snoop Dogg‘s long-in-the-works reunion album with producer Dr. Dre now has a release date and a star-studded track list. Missionary will be released Dec. 13 by Death Row/Aftermath/Interscope and is led by the single “Gorgeous” featuring Jhené Aiko. The 15-track project also boasts guest appearances from the late Tom Petty, Eminem, Jelly Roll, Sting, Method Man, 50 Cent and BJ the Chicago Kid.
Petty is represented on a rework of his ’90s smash “Last Dance With Mary Jane” with assistance from Jelly Roll. “Like a child that’s infatuated with somebody as a singer, you get a chance to meet them and they give you everything you expected,” Snoop said last month during an appearance at the Bloomberg Screentime conference. “That’s what happens with me all the time: I meet people I’ve always wanted to meet and they’re everything I wanted them to be.”
As for working again with Dr. Dre, who was behind the iconic 1993 album Doggystyle, Snoop enthused, “1993 was the last time he produced a whole Snoop Dogg album. So this is a reunion, and it’s collaboration between two friends who genuinely love each other. We know we’re better together.”
Dre, who has rarely rapped in recent years while preferring to operate behind the scenes as a producer and executive, is listed as a featured guest on three songs.
