Sirens Season 2 Real Life Filming Locations Will Make You Go Crazy Because They’re “Unbelievable”

The Netflix series may evoke Nantucket, but it was shot in New York.

Sirens is, among other things, an exploration of class, with fledgling, cash-strapped Devon (Meghann Fahy) growing suspicious of her sister’s new job with enigmatic billionaire Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore). When Devon infiltrates Michaela’s rarified coastal estate, it’s essential that viewers feel as alienated (and enticed) by the glamorous lifestyle as Devon is. As such, location was key to the success of the series.

The manicured lawns and lighthouse-strewn shorelines surrounding the Kell estate bring to mind luxe getaway spots like Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard — but the series was not filmed in either location.

“We were shooting in the summer, so right off the bat, we weren’t going to go to Nantucket,” production designer John Paino told Elle Decor. “When people buy a house out there, they want to use it.”

The Sirens team turned their eyes (and lenses) southwest, landing upon another gorgeous spot on the Atlantic shoreline that exuded the combination of natural beauty and moneyed opulence favored by the old-money dynasties of the East Coast.

Sirens was primarily shot in Lloyd Harbor, N.Y., a charming village on the North Shore of Long Island. Cliff House, the estate owned by the Kells, can be found in the area’s Caumsett State Historic Park Preserve, according to Tudum. It was a clever choice, as Michaela oversees her own wildlife sanctuary. The character’s passion for nature, and especially birds, is reflected in the real-life location.

The beach and woodland scenes were all shot at the park, which, per the Caumsett Foundation’s website, unfolds across 1,750 acres and is a destination for hiking, bird-watching, nature photography, fishing, and guided tours. It’s also home to some historical buildings, including Henry Lloyd Manor and the Dairy Barn Complex.

Located at 25 Lloyd Harbor Road in Huntington, NY, the park is open to the public seven days a week from sunrise to sunset. It costs $8 per car to enter, and special permits are required for activities such as fishing.

You can roam the grounds of the “Cliff House,” though the actual building, which serves as a country club, is not nearly as large as it appears on the series. “We found a house that was on a great location, and literally on a cliff, but it certainly wasn’t big enough,” Paino told Town & Country.

To turn the already-beautiful home into one fit for the excesses of the billionaire class, Paino and his team built facades and pergolas to make it appear larger.

“We did all these volume extensions on an existing house in a very postmodern way, in a very simplified classical architectural way,” he added.

Lloyd Harbor, which has counted celebrities like Billy Joel, Jerry Seinfeld, and Angelina Jolie among its residents, has also served as a filming location for movies like Salt (2010) and Leave the World Behind (2023).

Southold, N.Y.

Sirens also shot several scenes in Southold, N.Y., a town of roughly 24,000 on the North Fork peninsula of Long Island. It features wetlands, beaches, and several islands. The poet Walt Whitman once called it home. Per Newsday, scenes were filmed at a private property on Oregon Road.

Southold has served as the background for several popular films and series, including Noah Baumbach’s Margot at the Wedding (2007), Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black (2013–2019), and HBO’s The Undoing (2020). It also stood in for Gilgo Beach in Netflix’s Lost Girls (2020), a film about the Gilgo Beach serial killings.
