NEED TO KNOW

She says she hopes there will be a second season that will include flashbacks to the dramatic moment
She also says filming the series was so fun, and that her colleagues had a “hard time being mean to her”
Chrissy Metz knows that fans of The Hunting Wives want to know exactly what happened between Starr and Jill — and she wholeheartedly agrees.
“Katie Lowes and I agree there needs to be another season and there needs to be a flashback scene where we see what went down,” Metz, 44, says of the showdown between her character Starr, and Lowes’s character Jill, the minister’s wife.

In the dramatic final episode of season 1, viewers learned that Jill killed Starr — what they didn’t see was the conversation they had beforehand. “I feel like Jill had to have a secret. Because why else would she do that? Starr was a good woman,” Metz says. “So what is Jill hiding? Anyway, that’s my pitch. I’m going to reach out to the show runners and let them know we need some flashbacks if there’s another season.”
Metz says she had no idea that The Hunting Wives would take off the way it did, but when she first read the novel, she fell in love with it.
“I was like, oh, people love these kinds of wild and crazy salacious stories. And I love that the characters aren’t just one-note like you think they might be,” she says. “They’re very layered.”

Metz continues, “It’s become one of those things where everyone’s like, ‘Are you watching? I’m watching!’ Everyone’s talking about it. It’s so cool when you do something that reaches all sorts of people, on all sides.”

She says filming with colleagues Malin Akerman, Brittany Snow, Lowes and Jaime Ray Newman in Charlotte, N.C., was so much fun.
“I didn’t actually shoot a lot because I’d been wrapping a film in England, so I came into the mix a little bit later. It was so fun. Everyone was so great. I told them, ‘You’re going to have a hard time being mean to me!’ And they were like, ‘We really are.'”
The the entire cast has been thrilled with how the series took off.
“I was texting Brittany and saying what a good job she and Malin did with their characters, and we’re just like, yeah, it’s the little engine that could,” says Metz. “But now everyone is on board.”

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, Metz also opens up about her new life in Nashville, being newly in love and exploring all sorts of new career moves, including writing children’s books and launching Joyful Wine.
“I never thought I’d have all of this. Honestly, I’m just so grateful to still be working,” she says, noting that the roles coming to her no longer seem to have anything to do “with my pant size.”
She adds, “I truly live a life that I never thought would happen.”
