When Nicola Coughlan was told season three of Bridgerton would include Penelope Featherington’s love story with Colin Bridgerton, she knew it would involve some steamy sex scenes.

So when it came to signing her contract to reprise her role, the Irish actress put a cheeky ‘rule’ in her contract to make things a little less awkward for her parents who might want to watch her big moment in the much-loved Netflix series.

A special PG version for Nicola’s parents

Nicola has revealed that she has put a stipulation in her contract that requires Netflix to supply her with a more PG version of season three – without all of her character’s steamy scenes.

“It’s literally written into my contract,” revealed on SiriusXM Hits 1.

“People think I’m like saying it as a joke. I just don’t want to. I grew up Irish Catholic. That’s just not how we vibe.”

The more ‘family-friendly’ cut will not only remove the sex scenes involving Penelope and Colin, but also some of the nudity.

Nicola’s parents react to Bridgerton sex scenes

Ironically, according to the star, the nude scenes were actually something Nicola’s mum rather enjoyed when she was first introduced to the show.

“When she first saw Bridgerton, she didn’t know it was gonna be so saucy,” she admits.

“And then you get a bottom, Jonathan Bailey’s lovely bottom, about two minutes into the first episode ever. And she was like, ‘What is this?’

“But then, now she thinks it’s fantastic and really funny, and she keeps talking about bottoms,” she adds.

The first part of Bridgerton season three launches on Netflix on May 16th with the second part dropping on June 13th.
