New charges have been filed against a man accused in the murder of 11-year-old Jacqueline “Mimi” Torres-Garcia in New Britain, court records show.
The body of Mimi was found in a storage bin outside an abandoned house on Clark Street in New Britain on Oct. 8.
Karla Garcia and her boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, with whom she shares three other children, were charged in connection to Mimi’s murder.
Mimi’s aunt and Karla’s sister, Jackelyn Garcia, has also been charged with child cruelty and unlawful restraint.
Court records show that Nanita is now facing two additional charges including tampering with physical evidence and violation of regulations regarding the disposition of a dead body.

The mother of a 11-year-old girl whose body was found in a storage bin outside an abandoned house in New Britain earlier this month told police that she and her boyfriend withheld food from the child for two weeks before her death and restrained her in zip ties as punishment, according to a newly released warrant.
A warrant obtained by NBC Connecticut said Garcia and Nanita withheld food from a young girl for two weeks before her death and restrained her in zip ties as punishment.
When police announced that they were charging Jacqueline’s mother, Karla Garcia; her aunt, Jackelyn Garcia; and the mother’s boyfriend, Jonatan Nanita, they said they believed that Jacqueline Torres-Garcia’, died in the fall of 2024.
According to the warrants, Karla Garcia told her sister that the child died on Sept. 19. 2024.
Police located the child’s body after receiving an anonymous tip about a possible body on Clark Street.
The person who made the complaint told them that Nanita had picked up a tote in the woods of a cemetery and put it in the back of his Acura, then drove to 80 Clark St. in New Britain, which police said is an abandoned property, and left the tote there, the warrant states.
As she spoke with police, Karla Garcia said most of the punishments were under Nanita’s direction. She said that Nanita was the one who brought the child’s body downstairs, but she didn’t know what he did with it, the warrants states.
Karla Garcia and Jonatan Nanita were initially charged with murder as well as additional charges.
