Netflix’s Better Version of ‘Bosch’ Confirms Spin-Off Plans

Netflix has a plethora of long-running shows with large audiences, and more are released every weekend. One of the streamer’s first big hits was Stranger Things, which began in 2016 and didn’t wrap up until last month with an explosive and emotional finale. Netflix has plenty of shows like Stranger Things with massive stakes set in the sci-fi and fantasy genres, but it also has more grounded shows that have picked up large fan bases. The streamer is no stranger to medical dramas and police procedurals, and while these shows don’t always make it off the ground, there is a legal thriller that’s become one of the streamer’s biggest sensations.

In 2022, Netflix aired the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer, which is based on the series of novels of the same name by Michael Connelly, who is also famous for writing the Bosch books. The Lincoln Lawyer was also turned into a film in 2011, starring Matthew McConaughey. Netflix’s Lincoln Lawyer series has been a massive success, with the fourth season set to air soon and the show already confirmed for a fifth season. Netflix has yet to announce any spin-offs for The Lincoln Lawyer, but creator Ted Humphrey admits he has some ideas in mind.

While speaking to ScreenRant to promote the upcoming season of The Lincoln Lawyer, Humphrey was asked if there is any chance of The Lincoln Lawyer expanding into a franchise, the same way Bosch has. “From your lips to Ted Sarandos’ ears,” said Humphrey, referring to the CEO of Netflix. He continued, “Listen, that’s fascinating and I think could be very interesting. I will say that we absolutely have a wider universe for these characters in mind.” The remainder of Humphrey’s quote can be found below, where he admits that the fate of Lincoln Lawyer spin-offs is in the hands of audiences.

“Obviously, at the end of the day, the audience is who determines that, just like the audience is who determines the next season and how many seasons there are, if there’s a next season or whatever it is. So we definitely want to expand the world of Mickey’s personal life, his family, who this guy is and where he finds himself, and who are the people that he calls family. Let’s put it that way. So we’re looking at all those things.”

When Does ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 4 Come Out?

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4 will begin streaming on Netflix tomorrow, on February 5. All 10 episodes of Season 4 will air at once, following the traditional Netflix binge model. When the show was renewed for Season 5 last week, it was announced that it was already deep in development, with production to resume before the end of the year. While still lacking an official release date, it’s expected that The Lincoln Lawyer Season 5 will be released in 2027.
