However, at the time of writing, sitting at number six is Double Jeopardy. The film was originally released back in 1999 and more than 25 years later, is proving to be a hit among audiences once again.

For those unfamiliar with the movie, the story follows Libby Parsons who believes she has everything. However, she finds herself framed for the murder of her husband.

She manages to survive the long years spent behind bars by focusing on two burning desires that help sustain her. One, finding the whereabouts of her son and two, solving the mystery that destroyed her once happy life.

As she begins her journey of revenge, standing between her and her quest, however, is her parole officer, Travis Lehman. Libby poses a challenge to the cynical officer, one that forces him to face up to his own failings while pitting him against his superiors and law enforcement colleagues.

Leading the cast are Ashley Judd as Libby and Tommy Lee Jones as Travis, in performances that many fans claim are worthy enough to check out the film for. While it was far from a critical darling upon its initial release, it did spend three weeks as the number one movie in the US at the time and earned nearly $180 million at the box office against a $40 million budget.

Fans are a bit more split on Double Jeopardy but there are many who share their recommendation for it. That includes those that compare it to a more successful and well known title in The Fugitive. Particularly given Tommy Lee Jones’ similar roles in both films.

One person also shared a very honest verdict: “Double Jeopardy is a gripping late-’90s thriller that blends legal intrigue with emotional drama. Ashley Judd delivers a strong, grounded performance as Libby Parsons, a woman wrongfully convicted of her husband’s murder who transforms from a trusting wife into a determined survivor seeking justice.”

They continue: “Tommy Lee Jones adds charm and moral complexity. The film uses the double jeopardy premise effectively, keeping the story brisk and suspenseful despite some logical stretches. Direction, moody visuals, and a supporting cast enrich the experience, balancing action, tension, and character development. While not flawless, the film’s emotional stakes, star power, and relentless pacing make it an engaging, rewatchable thriller that remains memorable decades later, delivering satisfying twists and a strong payoff.”
