Emily’s chaotic life is still the focus of Emily in Paris season 4, part 1, but Ashley Park’s Mindy once again steals the scene with her multiple gripping storylines. Mindy Chen has been a central part of Emily’s story ever since Emily in Paris season 1’s beginning. Without Mindy, Emily would have never felt at home in Paris, as most of her interactions with Parisians had been negative. While Mindy understood where Emily was coming from, she also offered her the perspective of someone who knew enough French not to stand out as a foreigner uninterested in anything French-culture-related.

Mindy always played the role of the supportive best friend, but since moving in with Emily after the family she worked as an au pair for fired her for performing, she has consistently been a key character in Emily in Paris. If Emily in Paris season 2 focused on her finding a way to make her dream come true by busking with Benoit and Etienne, season 3 saw Mindy shine as a solo performer during her residency at a jazz club and brought her a new relationship with Nicolas. Emily in Paris season 4 gave even more space to Mindy.

Mindy Is A Highlight In Emily In Paris Season 4 (Again)

Mindy’s Stories Are The Funniest & The Most Powerful in Season 4

The friendship troubles between Mindy and Emily in Emily in Paris season 3 already showcased Mindy’s steadfast loyalty the moment she knew about Nicolas’s plot to push Emily away, but season 4 only reinforced Mindy and Emily’s friendship. Ashley Park’s Mindy was behind most of Emily in Paris season 4’s comedic moments, openly enjoying Timothée’s TikTok videos as Emily stressed over the whole ordeal, or letting Gabriel shower at their flat purposely not telling Emily. However, Emily in Paris season 4 gave Mindy plenty of key moments that brought the story forward, making Mindy one of the show’s key characters.

From empathizing with Nicolas over both their legacies as children of business tycoons wanting to craft a path for themselves to standing up to him after Nico didn’t defend her against his father’s derogatory remarks, Mindy’s storylines in Emily in Paris season 4 were as central as they were powerful. Mindy learning what still happened in JVMA’s Brand Closet and immediately telling Emily was what convinced Sylvie to tell her story to Le Monde, prompting more problems between Mindy and Nicolas, but also letting Mindy stand up for her beliefs, once again proving one of Emily in Paris’s finest characters.

Mindy enjoying Timothée’s TikTok videos or purposely hiding from Emily how Gabriel was in their shower crown her as Emily in Paris ‘ most consistent comic relief.

Ashley Park Deserves To Lead Her Own TV Show

Park’s Supporting Characters Often Stand Out In The Best Way Possible

Mindy’s centrality in Emily in Paris despite her being Emily’s best friend speaks of what Ashley Park could do if she were given a lead role in a TV show. With an extensive career in theatre and plenty of roles in TV shows, Park proved her ability, often standing out despite only being a supporting character. Her Ashley Gold in Girls5Eva brilliantly played the glue that held the girl band together, just like Kimber in Only Murders in the Building was an easily believable suspect and one of the show’s season 3 highlights.

Emily in Paris season 4, part 1 picks up after the season 3 cliffhanger ending, but it’s own conclusion is far from satisfying as new problems emerge.

Emily in Paris season 4 having Mindy consistently as a supporting character to Emily only for Park’s character to outshine her, especially considering Emily’s relatively straightforward storylines in Emily in Paris season 4, part 1, cements the need for a TV show casting Park as lead. Such a possibility could showcase Park’s comedic talent just as much as her dramatic side, finally letting viewers bask in her abilities after plenty of TV shows like Emily in Paris only looked for supporting roles in Ashley Park’s characters.

Emily in Paris season 4, part 1 is now streaming on Netflix.
