Mike Tyson and Donald Trump have a long history, with the former heavyweight world champion once confronting the former president about his wife

Mike Tyson once accused Donald Trump of having an affair with his wife. Trump, 78, has a long-standing history with the former heavyweight boxing champion.

The ex-president and returning Republican candidate was the financial force behind Tyson’s 1988 fight against Michael Spinks, which saw Tyson win by knockout within 91 seconds. However, tensions reportedly escalated when Trump was accused of having an affair with Tyson’s then-wife, Robin Givens.

This led to a frightening confrontation in which Tyson stormed into Trump’s New York office and accused the billionaire of sleeping with his wife. These allegations come from author Tim O’Brien, who recounted the story in his book ‘TrumpNation’.

Tyson disclosed in his book ‘Fire and Fear: The Inside Story of Mike Tyson’ the intensity of their domestic strife, confessing he delivered what he believed was: “The best punch I’ve ever thrown in my entire life.” In 1997, Tyson found love again and married Monica Turner on April 19, with whom he had two children, Rayna and Amir. The marriage lasted six years before dissolving into divorce.

Despite the rocky past, Tyson surprisingly backed Trump for the 2020 presidential campaign. Speaking to the Huffington Post, Tyson lavished praise on Trump’s journey from business tycoon to president: “A guy that came from where he came from, doing what he’s doing in that field, and now this is where he’s at now.”

As reported by the Times, the passage read: “He said, ‘Could I ask you, are you f***ing my wife? ‘” “Now, if I froze, I’m dead… You would have zero chance. Here’s the heavyweight champion of the world, and he’s a solid piece of f***ing armour.” It remains unclear what transpired at the end of that meeting. What is known is that Tyson and Trump were an unlikely pair in the boxing world during the 1980s.

Trump was believed to have been an adviser to the heavyweight titan throughout his career. However, things took a turn when Trump began dating Givens. Tyson and Givens’ tumultuous marriage in 1987 came to a bitter end as rumours of her affair with Trump surfaced. Their relationship, fraught with accusations of abuse and instability, deteriorated swiftly.

He further elaborated, stressing the need for change: “You know what that means? That doesn’t mean he’s a bad guy and the people don’t know what they’re doing; that means the people are tired of what you’re doing, what you’ve been doing the last 20 years…So we got to change. So no let’s try something new. Let’s run America like a business, where no colours matter. Whoever can do the job gets the job.”

As the next election takes place today, Tyson is also gearing up for an epic showdown with internet star Jake Paul. The much-anticipated fight is scheduled for November 15, set to take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
