With The Umbrella Academy season 4 just days away from release, series star Justin H. Min has teased the final season’s version of Ben. During The Umbrella Academy’s season 3 finale, the show’s titular heroes find themselves stranded and powerless in an alternate reality after Allison resets the universe. While Luther’s wife and Sparrow Academy member Sloane (Genesis Rodriguez) is suddenly missing, the variant of Ben from her timeline survived, along with the original Umbrella Academy members. To further complicate matters, however, a post-credit scene also hinted at yet another variant of Ben sitting on a Korean train.

Speaking with GamesRadar+, Min spoke about his role in The Umbrella Academy season 4 and how he fits in with the surviving members of the Umbrella Academy. Explaining that the Sparrow Academy’s Ben does not quite fit in with the other survivors from season 3’s Hotel Oblivion, he explains that his character is having a harder time than the others in adjusting to his newfound circumstances and is “very displaced.” Check out his comments below:

He doesn’t quite know where he fits in or belongs. He’s the only surviving member of the Sparrow Academy, which was his sole identity and family. He’s never quite fit in with the Umbrellas, so he doesn’t really know what to do.

Will The Umbrella Academy’s Own Variants Be The Key To Restoring Their Powers?

Ben May Not Be The Only One With An Alternate Version Of Himself.

Given that The Umbrella Academy season 3’s post-credit scene hinted at the existence of another Ben variant in this new timeline, it is possible that variants of every other member of The Umbrella Academy also exist.

When Allison activated the mysterious, interdimensional machine hidden at the heart of the Hotel Oblivion and executed Sir Reginald Hargreeve’s plans to reset the universe, it is unclear whether the loss of her sibling’s powers was part of his original design. While it is possible that Sir Reginald intended to leave the Umbrella Academy powerless, he was also interrupted from completely programming the machine before he was killed and revealed to be a robot. As such, their newfound lack of abilities may have been a completely unintended side effect.

Either way, the siblings’ lack of superpowers in season 4, and their quest to recover them will likely be a key plot point in the show’s final season. Given that The Umbrella Academy season 3’s post-credit scene hinted at the existence of another Ben variant in this new timeline, it is possible that variants of every other member of The Umbrella Academy also exist. Moreover, locating them could potentially be the key to finding a way to restore their missing abilities.

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 Final Trailer

However, previous seasons of The Umbrella Academy have also introduced the notion of paradox psychosis, an unfortunate side effect of coming too close to an alternate version of oneself. As such, any quest to locate alternate reality versions of themselves could be more dangerous than even they could anticipate. Regardless, audiences will be keen to see how the Sparrow Academy’s Ben, and his brethren from another timeline, resolve their latest interdimensional mess in The Umbrella Academy season 4.

The Umbrella Academy season 4 premieres on Netflix on August 8.
