During a recent appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show, Zendaya confirmed Euphoria will likely end after its upcoming season
Season 3, which premieres this Sunday, April 12, features a time jump with characters navigating adulthood after the show’s long hiatus
Zendaya also reflected on how starring as Rue has shaped her life, saying the role taught her about empathy and redemption

Euphoria is coming to an end soon, according to Zendaya.

The Emmy winner, 29, appeared on the April 6 episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, during which she discussed the hit HBO drama series ahead of the season 3 premiere this Sunday, April 12.

When host Drew Barrymore asked if this would be the show’s final season, Zendaya replied, “I think so.” She further confirmed that “closure is coming.”

Later, Zendaya opened up about the impact that taking on the leading role of Rue Bennett has had on her life and career.

Euphoria, it cracked my heart open,” she said. “Rue taught me so much about life. I mean, that crew also has seen me grow up. I owe so much to that show.”

“Rue taught me so much about empathy and about redemption,” Zendaya continued. “She taught me a lot, and I’m very grateful for all of it.”

HBO’s head of drama Francesca Orsi previously told Deadline that season 3 will likely be the final installment: “We’ve talked about it, I don’t think anything is over until it’s over, but it’s been discussed that this is the end. I think you will be very satisfied with this season and how we bring each of the characters’ whole narrative.”

Euphoria’s highly anticipated return comes after a four-year hiatus. Fans last saw Rue get sober after battling a drug addiction throughout season 2, which aired in 2022, leaving viewers with these words: “I stayed clean through the rest of the school year. I wish I could say that was a decision I made. In some ways, it was just easier.”

While Rue’s struggle with drugs isn’t over, Zendaya previously said she hopes season 3 brings “a little bit of happiness and a little bit of joy” for the character.

“I would like to explore Rue’s sobriety and that journey for her,” she told Extra in April 2022. “We see her in the midst of it. It would be nice to see her closer to the other side.”

Production for the series’ third season kicked off in February 2025, despite it being renewed in February 2022 and initially scheduled to begin filming in the first half of 2024.

HBO released a full season 3 trailer on March 30, which starts off with Rue being interviewed about whether she’s been to Mexico (and lying about it), followed by a scene from Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi)’s wedding, along with what the rest of the group is now up to as adults.

Creator Sam Levinson shared more details as part of an HBO Max presentation in December 2025, while also addressing the five-year time jump.

“Five years felt like a natural place because if they’d gone to college they’d be out of college at that time,” he said, via Variety. “We basically pick up Rue south of the border in Mexico, in debt to Laurie, trying to come up with some very innovative ways to pay it off.”

Meanwhile, Cassie and Nate are married, and Hunter Schafer’s Jules is in art school.” Maddy, portrayed by Alexa Demie, “is working in Hollywood at a talent agency for a manager,” and Maude Apatow’s Lexi “is an assistant to a showrunner played by Sharon Stone, who is just absolutely delightful and a true icon.”

Euphoria returns for season 3 on Sunday, April 12 on HBO and HBO Max. Zendaya currently stars in the movie The Drama, in theaters now.
