Princess Catherine made a rare admission about her daughter Princess Charlotte yesterday as she hosted a reception at Windsor Castle. The Princess of Wales invited the Red Roses’ Rugby Team to the castle for a special celebration on Thursday to mark the team’s World Cup success last September.

As patron of the Rugby Football Union, Catherine looked delighted to host such an event as she spent time talking to the players. As well as praising their great work in the tournament, she also spoke to the team about her family’s own love of rugby.

The princess, who turned 44 last week, revealed that the family play the sport at home, admitting that her daughter Princess Charlotte is also starting to take part.

She said: “Charlotte is playing rugby, but at home with the family, so she isn’t yet at school, and I was asking how many schools are actually incorporating [rugby].

“Rugby is so accessible. Louis is playing touch rugby, and it’s such a great game.”

It is believed both Catherine’s sons, Prince George, 12, and Prince Louis, seven, play the sport at Lambrook School.

Catherine joked that she wouldn’t like to be tackled by her eldest son, who will move on to secondary school this year.

She told the rugby players: “Obviously, as they get physically stronger – George now, if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George.”

It has been reported in the past that the children, especially George and Charlotte, enjoy playing and watching football. This is something they most likely inherited from their football-loving father, Prince William, who is an avid Aston Villa fan.

After she made an appearance with her parents at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, Charlotte revealed that she is a fan of gymnastics and is also a keen dancer.
