John Leguizamo was disappointed with Marvel Studios giving the role of Vulture to Michael Keaton.
John Leguizamo has been a champion of Latino actors in Hollywood, but when the industry tried to diminish his talent, he made sure he would keep his head high. That’s what happened when an iconc role was almost handed to him, and the studio took it back.
The actor almost joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2017 to play Vulture or Adrian Toomes, but the role was ultimately given to Michael Keaton. The former felt this was an act of betrayal.
John Leguizamo Was Devastated After Vulture Role Was Snatched From Him
In his interview with Comic Book, actor John Leguizamo made the revelation that he was supposed to be Vulture in Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Homecoming.
“I was supposed to be the Vulture. We had negotiated, and I was about to play him, and they said that Michael Keaton wanted it back, and they asked me if I would give it up. I said, ‘Well, okay, I guess.’ They said, ‘No, we’ll work with you again, we’re gonna…’ That’s what happened there.”
He expounded on the matter in his conversation with Business Insider. Leguizamo also expressed his candid emotions towards the fiasco.
“I didn’t understand it. I think another actor would’ve sued because we had agreed on terms. We went through a huge negotiation period, and we had agreed on terms. I hadn’t signed a contract, but we had agreed. I think those are sueable terms.”
The actor was deeply hurt by the situation, but he received the wisest advice from his grandmother: “If they don’t want you at a party, don’t go.” He also added, “I don’t want to be there. I felt dissed and diminished, so I didn’t really want to be a part of it.” Has he given up on the chance to work with superhero franchises? Probably not.
John Leguizamo May Give Superhero Movies Another Chance
In the same interview with Business Insider, Leguizamo confessed he is still willing to join superhero films as long as they give him significant roles. He stated:
“I would if I was offered The Riddler or some part like that. I would go back to other franchises. I mean, if you make it up to me.”
n that case, Leguizamo might join the DC Universe if things go his way. In fact, he’s already voiced The Riddler in Batman: The Audio Adventures, so he knows exactly how to play the character. Even though he lost the Vulture role, Leguizamo did not make it look like it was a huge loss for him.
