The Inter Miami player has infamously refused to speak English in public.

It’s been a longtime running joke that Lionel Messi can’t speak English. Despite moving to the United States in 2023 and seeing his Spanish-speaking teammates like Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez hold their own while speaking English, we are still yet to truly hear Messi say anything in the second language.

But as fate would have it, we have finally gotten a glimpse of Messi speaking English. And it so happens that it came by way of a very short cameo in a trailer for the upcoming Bad Boys: Ride or Die movie.

In the trailer, Messi shows up at the doorstep of Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnette, played by Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, respectively.

Messi’s cameo and words are extremely short, as he just says “Bad Boys?” The Bad Boys respond by telling Messi that he’s at the “wrong house“, then shut the door in his face.

Fans were left wanting more, but many were happy to see him speak English at all. Although one user noted that “even the English sounds like Spanish“.
